I don't know if you'd call it vintage, but I have a Model E-L (1623) from Canada that is a very nice machine. | ||

I always wondered why more of those never wondered into the states. They're quieter, don't tip over as easily as the Auto G, and they have an after filter. I'd love to find one. | ||

I have a Canadian 30, 54, 55 and 89. They are all wonderful machines and each is considerably powerful than the American contemporaneous machines. Especially the 89. My 54:

I can't find the photos of my 30 and 55, and the machines are packed in storage. Here's a "wet dream" 88 that was on eBay a few years ago. I was outbid by one other person.......

I Remember Seeing
That red Lux in the Van Nuys CA Electrolux branch and almost peeing in my pants. Never saw anything like it. Anyway I later found out these were Canadian. While I would love to find a red one, my dear friend Tania provided me with a beautiful green specimen. Don't know the model numbers off the top of my head, but you guys probably do.

Hello! and welcome, fellow Canadian Ontarian.
"There will be NO navel tingling here on the forum.... " Since you didn't mention it I assume Naval Twingling is still all right, eh? But I digress... Green Electrolux 87's and 89's (1967 - 1973) seem to be fairly plentiful, the red/maroon 86's and 88's (1963 - 1967) less so and the rarest of the style are the cream & red trim models 83 & 86 (1957 - 1963). My theory about Canadian models found in the United States (*that weren't collector imports*) is that they are Snowbird Retiree items transported with household goods to Florida and Arizona in the main. Hose couplers are not inter-compatible (entirely different sizes) between Canadian and American Electrolux's but the wand diameter and tools are. Matching Polishers & Shampooers? Why, yes! The stylishly triangular BX-10 polisher with detachable shampoo/detergent/liquid wax solution dispenser tank came in Cranberry Red. Pete has the red Polisher-only version. I also have an all chrome BX-10 polisher that was introduced for the previous Electrolux 'breadloaf' series 50 models. The triple brush design is European. L-R: 88 version 2, BX-10, 86 version 2, 88 version 1. Nite, the 86 did not have the 'Magic Brain' full bag detector, which pops the bag lid and shuts off the motor.

With the 1967 green models 87 & 89 CanLux introduced the all new folding Model B-21 polisher Shampooer in matching green that was continued virtually unchanged (except for the motor hood slight re-design) in colors matching subsequent Electrolux vacuum models through +two decades! The AP, E, LE, System 90 and 2100 series (1967-1989). Yes, there is a blue (Jadestone) & gray one for the LE and a maroon one for the 2100. The Fudge Brown one on the right goes with the AP 280 (1978-1982). Dave

Hey Mike you'll have to get in touch to come down to our next vacuum mini meet here in Sarnia,, who knows when, they just sort of happen. My electrolux chest looks to be the same as the one Charls posted above.. without the caster.. though I keep my green 89 in it.

Hey Michael: Actually I had most of those before I went to work for Electrolux. My knowledge of the machines was one of the reasons I was hired (The fact that I had the first two levels of the electricians course didnt hurt either) I think I was the first repair man that they had hired (at least here) that was actually qualified to do the repairs without being trained. As long as you know the decade in which the old Electroluxes were made (old as in up to the E2000) you can get the exact date from the serial number. Eg: An alligator skin model ZB55 (1949-53) with a serial number beginning with 1 was made in 1951. If you need any repair parts let me know - I have a basement full. Doug | ||

The original hose came with the '89 when I bought it on Ebay. Although physically it is in great shape, it leaks like a sieve so not practical to use. I bought another original '89 hose that I found on Ebay about 15 years ago. I removed the machine end off that hose. I then bought the vinyl hose on Ebay but it had the machine end that was for a plastic body Lux. I removed that end coupling and attached the '89 coupling. Works like a charm.

Countryguy, how do you go about changing the hose ends? I thought that was not possible? I have a vinyl hose for the plastic body which I would like to use on the older metal body.. :) | ||

It is possible with some work :-) I remember seeing a post on here that gave the details on how to do it. I'll have to look in the archives to see if I can find it. Basically the collar where the hose end goes into the connector is removed so that the hose can be separated from the connector. Then I cut the wires, connected them with the wires on the new hose end, insert the hose into the hose end and attach the connector.

I see that most of the Americans believe that the Canadian model 89 is more powerful than the American models. I tend to agree.. I have five model 89s and two sets are complete. I like them because they''ARE'' more powerful, quieted and don't tip over. It is my opinion that the model 89 is the best vacuum cleaner made. Dan in Calgary | ||

Electrolux Seat Chests (Follow-Up)
@ Collector2 (Moose Jaw, Sk),
(or anybody else who has some of these chests) Have you ever seen (or come across) a hunter green coloured one? I recently picked one up off of Kijiji (please see my photos). I'm not 100% sure, but I am 98% sure that it's Electrolux because it does have a date stamped on the inside of the top lid.
