I know for many of you guys, replacing a Kirby fan is something that's second nature. But this was my first time, so I have to brag a little on myself since it was a success!!! LOL! It actually turned out to be a very straightforward procedure.

The fan case and successfully removed. The fan really didn't need to be replaced. It only had a few nicks, but I wanted to see if I could do it.

The fan finally came off with a little effort. It also gave me a chance to clean out a lot of built dirt behind the fan. I also blew out some accumulated fuzz and dirt from the motor.

Et voila! Success!!! It lives!!! I bought a new bench polisher as a birthday present to myself. So I guess my next project will be to teach myself how to polish aluminum.

Just out of curiosity...

How much does a bench polisher cost?
Where do you find them?
Thanks!

The sweet taste of "sucksess"

I was a bit intimidated by the G series but I also have found them to be very simple to work on. They sure clean up nice too.

This is the bench polisher I bought at Sears. I also bought some polishing bits for my drill. I haven't had a chance to use any of them yet. That will be my weekend project. I found more powerful polishers online but since I'm not going to be using it everyday, I didn't think I needed something bigger or more expensive. But I may regret that! LOL! The first photo I took of the G6 really shows up the tiny scratches from the 0000 steel wool. In person, it looks much nicer. But steel wool just doesn't do the fine polishing job that a polishing wheel can. I also found all kinds of instructions online about how to polish aluminum. So we'll see how it goes this weekend!

Fan replacement on G series Kirbys

I have never broke the fan case apart when I change a fan on a G series Kirby.. I find it much easier(the way I was trained by Kirby) to just pull the motor out backwards to change the fan. Then you can blow out the motor and check the switch at the same time..

I don't understand

How can you cange a fan without breaking the fan case apart. Doesn't the fan have to come out the front?

I admit to never having tore into a G series just wondering about the technique.
