Super J Motor Service

Hi, Andy--I'll be glad to assist you with the motor service on your Electrolux. First, you will need to remove the top trim/handle assembly. It is held on by 3 screws. Slide open the Blower Door, and remove the 2 screws, which are either phillips or flat head. Next, remove the phillips screw on the end of the top trim, which is directly in front of the bag door, on top of the machine. You will then be able to remove the top trim. Next, there are 3 phillips screws on the cordwinder assembly, 2 on top of the machine, and 1 on the bottom of the machine. Remove those screws. There is a clear plastic tube--disconnect it from the cordwinder, and after you have removed the screws, then you can remove the cordwinder assembly. To gain access to the motor unit, you will need an 11/32 socket, with a long extension, to remove the 4 nuts--2 on top and 2 on the bottom, of your motor housing, it is the black plastic piece that's inside the vacuum's case. After you have removed the 4 nuts, you can then pull it out of the machine and you will see your motor unit. To remove the motor unit, disconnect the 2 wires from the cordwinder, also separate the little plastic connector that runs down through the middle of the machine, it is the connector that has little tabs on it, it's really easy to disconnect, just separate the tabs with your fingers and pull straight out and it will separate. Pull your motor out of the machine. To gain access to your fans--loosen the 4 screws on the fan housing of the motor. A lot of times, sometimes there is rust on the housings, if that's the case, spray them with WD-40 to loosen them. You may have to tap them loose with a flat-head screwdriver and hammer. If they are not rusty, they should come right apart. After you have removed the top housing, loosen the large nut in the center of the top fan, and then remove the top fan. It is a good idea to label your fans, as they must be replaced in the exact order of dis-assembly. After removing the top fan, pull off the bottom housing, and remove the bottom fan. To clean the fans, use an old brush, or Q-Tips, warm water, and a little dish detergent. With the Q-Tips or Old Brush, clean the inside fins of the fans. While you have the motor apart, clean it as well, and also clean the carbon brush housings, as dirt tends to build up inside them and make the brushes stick to where they won't work properly. I have found on a lot of Super-J's, more often than not, the armatures are bad in them, and need to be replaced. Replacement Armatures are usually available from Electric Sweeper Service Co, or any Wholesale Vacuum Parts place, also there is a website for Eurton Electric, that is in California, where you can send the armature in and they will rewind it. If you can get a replacement armature it would be easier. Electrolux's are great vacuums, and it's worth it to fix them up, as a new armature and motor brushes and bearings will basically make it like a brand new machine. Anyway--If you have any questions feel free to ask me, I'll be glad to help--

Sincerely,
Nathan L. Thomas

Cord Reel Wires

Hi, Andy--No Problem--The black and white wires hook together, and the grey wire hooks up by itself. Usually the Black and white wires I hook up to the left prong on the cord winder and the grey wire on the right one. If you have any further questions holler!

Ok...

...this is what is confusing me, the w&b wire goes on the top or bottom? or the blue t or b? What I meam top or bottom is like the cord exit facing toward the hole. ~~~WHERE CAN I GET GENUINE WRAPPERS?~~~ none of my vac shops have them and there is no areus delar around? Currently I am using riccar ecofresh electrolux bags but i want genuine.

Wiring Instructions

Hi, Andy--I'm sorry you are having trouble. I will try to explain my directions so you can understand them easier. On the inside of the case of the machine, there are three wires. There is a white wire, a black wire with a white round plastic connector on it, and a blue wire. The white wire has an additional tab on it. The vacuum's motor has 2 black wires, the black wire that connects to the white wire is the longer of the 2 black wires. The connectors on the white and black wires are brass connectors and are goldish in color. Connect the black wire from the motor, with the brass connector, onto the extra tab that is on the white wire. The other black wire that is on the motor has the round connector on it. Connect it up to the black wire inside the case of the machine that has the round plastic connector on it. The two round connectors will snap together. Plug your white and black wires with the brass connectors onto the left tab of the cordwinder, and plug the blue wire onto the right tab of the cordwinder. Your machine will then work. As for Aerus bags, check E-Bay. In the search box type in "Electrolux" and it will bring up several pages of Electrolux's. There are quite a few sellers that sell bags. If you want genuine bags you may have to log onto the Aerus website--I think it's Aerus/Electrolux.com. Anyway--I hope the wiring instructions will be easier for you to understand, I hope I haven't confused you. If you have any further questions let me know.

Sincerely,
Nathan

What I mean,

You are confusing me because if you face the c/w with the cord facing the hole, there are two top and bottom prongs. i dont know what you mean by left and right?

thanks a million,-a-

Top and Bottom Prongs

Hi, Andy--I understand what you mean. I will re-phrase my instructions. Connect your Black and White Wires with the bronze connectors to the top prong of the cordwinder, and connect the blue wire to the bottom prong. I hope this helps--

Nathan

Nathan,

THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!!!! I just finished with thw 1st floor and it doesent smell anymore, It dosent sound loud anymore, and it cleans soooooooooo good! the next and last question I want to ask you is a filter. If I open up the blower compartment, can i stick one of those filters that look like a mini bag on thier?

thanks,-a-

Blower Filter

Hi, Andy--No, the older machines do not use a filter. Do not stick any type of filter or any objects whatsoever, in the blower compartment--you'd be asking for trouble. Usually having the blower compartment closed, the machines are less noisy. The top trim has little air holes so the machines' blowers will blow air out the sides. The blower is just to strictly be used for reversing the hose to blow instead of suck. Other than that--that's pretty much what the blowers are for, the blowers work great for if you want to use the machine to inflate an air mattress, simply attach the hose to the blower port and go to town! Anyway--Nice to be able to help you, take care!

Sincerely,
Nathan
