Part of my morning waking up sequence with my coffee is perusing the Oreck website to keep up on offers that we at the store should be aware of in case net shoppers come in to look at product at a special price which we will honor. When I logged on this morning, found all of our new models, pricing, etc. We knew they were coming, in fact, we don't have them yet but will any day now. Lower prices and warranties on the lower end machines, the regular Platinum is gone but is the new Gold with a much lower price/warranty. The new Edge I'm told will be a store vacuum only, until further notice. I'm interested to see where these are assembled, hopefully in Cookeville, Tn. and not you know where like the Edge. Like Kirby, there are a lot of long time dedicated employees there, who moved to Tn. after Katrina, and hope to stay gainfully employed I'm sure.

Looks like the got the idea from the Garry Vac, but of corse put a patented Oreck price on it lol. It looks nice though.

Maybe....

Oreck may have gotten the idea from Garry, however I have used a Garry vac and there's no comparison in construction and cleaning ability. While it's at 799.00 now, I do foresee it going down after it's introduction, like the Platinum and Platinum Pilot models. I think they price them high at first to see what the market will bear, then drop the prices after they do not fly out the door. At least the prices will be standard throughout the stores whether high or low. One issue I have with the Edge is the only tool with the hose is a permanently attached extendable crevice tool, which is nice, enough suction for edging, but no other attachement for dusting, furniture, etc., which is probably a good thing otherwise people would be trying to use it to clean their cars out which would be an issue since everything goes through the fan. It's startling what people try to vacuum up, as I had a Platinum yesterday that someone try to vacuum up drywall, complete with nails, ugh, they think they can vacuum up anything, wet or dry with a vacuum.

No kidding. I live in a kinda "white trsh" area so to speak (no offense to anyone,I wouldnt have it any other way lol) and the vacuums I have come across in the past is enough to make your head spin. The grossest one was a trash find Hoover 53 or 54 ish it was blue my fav color, anyway the people used it to vacuum pet mess and fur. The thing was so caked and smelled so bad I had soaked all the parts including the bag and the stink never came out. I have found all kinds of coins and jewelery toys nylons etc.
