What is your opinion on Hoover's portable canisters that are the models Swingette, Portapower, Sprint and Tempo?

The Swingette was the first of these, being introduced for 1970. It became the Portapower five years later, with a new color scheme to boot.

Then, the Portapower was replaced for 1989 with the Sprint/Tempo twins. The Sprint applied to casual users while the Tempo was more upscale. Among them, the Tempo 450 was the ultimate prize as it featured the motorized Powermatic powerhead. The Tempo 450 was arguably one of the very few portable canisters out there, at least back in 1990, to use a motorized powerhead. Other Sprint/Tempo variations through the mid 1990s included the Hornet (with its obligatory yellow hue) and the Portapower II.

Hoover did offer a version of the Portapower with a deluxe wheeled floor nozzle, under model S1127, in 1988, when they were to discontinue consumer sales of the Portapower in favor of the Sprint/Tempo line.

This reminds me: did Hoover ever have plans as far back as the mid '70s and the early '80s to sell a version of the Portapower with the Powermatic power nozzle?

I own the Swingette, a few PortaPowers, and a Tempo. I would not trade them for the world!

I have a few Portapowers and a Swingette. I really love them. They are great for cleaning the car, and have pretty decent suction. They also come with a pretty good tool set.

I have a Swingette. It's a good little machine. If you take the hose off the suction will stick it to the wall!
