They are both excellent machines, but I think the electrolux's have nicer attachments, and are less of a chore to empty. However I think the filter queen has better filtration. |

I've had both machines and if comparing the new Lux (Aerus) to the FQ then I would prefer the FQ. Emptying the container is a little more work but not that bad. And with its smaller round shape it is much easier to maneuver in tight spaces plus the large casters lets it roll easily on carpet or the floor. I do like the Lux PN better than the FQ's PN. I have a Lux '89 and I prefer that over any of my vacs. Gary |

To me, Electrolux (Aerus) and Filter Queen both have one major drawback -- their power nozzles. I think they are both very good machines with that one caveat. I only own older metal Electrolux vacuums (all pre-1994). So the filtration award goes to Filter Queen there. I'm sure Aerus has leveled the playing field on newer models, though. I might give the FQ a slight edge, because they do have height adjustment on the power nozzle where Electrolux does not.

Not too much experience with FQ's. I only have one older model with the big chrome power nozzle. It's emptying it I don't like whereas tossing a bag in and out of an Electrolux is a snap. |

I didn't know Filter Queen was now making a free floating power nozzle. I wonder how good they are. I've always liked my Filter Queen, but I never thought the power nozzle was great. You can't beat the filtration. Because of that, the motor always stays ultra clean. And I always find it kind of fun to empty the dust container. Maybe its odd, but I think it's kind of fun to check out the debris! That's why I really like my Tristars too. As for the power nozzle question, I always compare every power nozzle to my Tristar nozzle with a VGII or my Eureka Sweep n Groom with a VGIII. I think the Tristar is probably the best deep cleaner I've found.

Due to the hardwood floors, and then the Oriental rugs, and narrow passages, read can't get rid of things? It had a tendency to bump into everything and the wheels to catch on the rugs, and for some reason the rubber hose end, not normal metal just really sissed me off.Nice motor and sound, suction.

I tend to lean towards Filter Queen when speaking solely on the dependability and quality of the machine. Electrolux pre-Ultralux LX is all nicely built and great quality, but Filter Queen has a far better design. Filter Queen has really lost a lot of their competitiveness lately with the crap power nozzles, hose ends, and wands. The direct connect technology is wonderful, but the damn button on the end of the hose is too easy for the average user to break. I shouldn't curse the hose though, I just replaced a lady's hose, PN wand, and PN elbow to the tune of $390 last week due to that button issue. As for the quality control issues on the new Electroluxes...let's not get into that this evening. |

Terry, I appreciate your opinion. I think it is interesting that you find the Lux follows better than the FQ. I find the complete opposite especially since I have a lot of thicker type carpet. The Lux is much more difficult to pull over the carpeting than the FQ is and when backing up from a tight spot again the FQ is easier to do because I can just push it back whereas with the Lux I have to pick it up and move it. I also like the fact that all the tools are on the FQ whereas with the Lux, it only carries the crevice tool and combo brush. I currently just have a Lux '89 but I have owned an AP280, 6500 and 9000. The FQ power nozzle could be better however. Mine is the most current model. Gary |

Lux for me as well. (if it has the vinyl hose) Filter Queen probably has better suction, the floor tools and attachments on the Lux are so easy to use...two tools in one...you can't beat that. Then there is the dirt container on the Filter Queen, grant that the cone does an excellent job of filtering, but you still have to empty it and have all that dust fly back at you. Again, like a bagless machine, why would I want with my allergies, to vacuum all day (or month) using a machine that filters out the allergins so well...then have to empty it...having all that concentrated into one spot and really no easy way not to have it come back in your face. Actually emptying a FQ is very easy with very little dust flying about if done properly. I remove the motor, the inner filter cone (leaving the paper one in place), remove the wheel dolly, place 3 or 4 layers of newspaper over the top, grab hold of the paper and bucket tightly and slowly turn over holding the newspaper in place, give a few shakes and then slowly remove the bucket. Place a couple more pieces of newspaper over top of the dirt and then fold up all the sides of the newspaper. Throw in the trash and all done. Of course emptying a Lux is much easier but emptying a FQ does not have to be messy. Gary |
