My aunt and uncle gave me this Oreck a few hours ago. I asked if it worked and they said yeah, it is just to old. So I get it home and the bag didn't inflate so I assumed it had a bad fan, but the brushroll was spinning, so it was clogged up in the fill tube with a 3 inch piece of metal with tons of debri wrapped around it. Now it works nice for an Oreck I guess. I figured I'd share it.

XL-3700

I'm glad you did! You really hit the jackpot! Having been an Oreck sales representative, I will always have a soft spot for these machines. Not everybody appreciates them, but I do. Guess that's why Baskin-Robbins makes 31 flavors! ;-)

Chase,

You won't be disappointed. Oreck makes a good vacuum and they are truly work horses. I love me XL21 and use it almost daily.

I'm not disappointed at all. I have the next step up to this model, at least I think it is. It is a black 2 speed one with LED lights stuff. But this is probably one of the best Orecks I have used in a while. I do have a soft spot for them to. I like to use them in my foyer and kitchen. They are great on rugs!

My 2 Cents on Orecks

Hi, All. I used to not care that much about Orecks, and didn't think that they really were that good but after having worked for Oreck now for the past 3 or 4 months, I can honestly say that they are an impressive little vacuum. I have a great boss, who has made me some really good deals on some of the trade ins, and so now thanks to him I have about 5 Orecks in my collection! I have one of the Red colored XL commercial uprights, a rare red colored square Oreck XL cannister with the power nozzle, also I rebuilt an Oreck XL hand vac with new bearings, and my latest 2 Orecks are the Round Commercial Shop-Vac types. I got 2 of them, both brand new, with the hoses and wet/dry pickup kits for $175.00. Nobody wanted them, they were just sitting around the shop for a long time. Anyway--Orecks do hold up quite well, it seems. I have had to replace motors in some of them but overall I think they are good vacuums. I probably will bring one of them to display with some of my other vacuums at the convention in Austin this year.

Vintage Orecks

Wow, that's great Nathan. Have you seen any of the original XL-4000's yet? I hope you get one as a trade-in. With their stubby little handle, they are fun little machines. Sound nothing at all like the rest of the Oreck lineup...

I have an Oreck 4000. I don't like that one at all...lol It is way to small and does not have enough power..in my opinion. But then again, the bearings are pretty bad in mine

Sorry for being off topic, but vacman117, I see you have a central vac! What brand is it?

haha It's cool. It is a Nutone. I hate it with a passion..lol. It has electronic bag check lights and all that, but I don't like it. The only thing I like about it is that it uses the same style Power Nozzle as the old Kenmore canisters. I love that one.

Saying you "guess" and you "suppose" made it seem like you were disappointed with the cleaner. Nice to have a family support your passion (even though you're "done" with vacuums again) :o)

Nathan & Morgan
I was like many of the other vac collectors and I always hated the Orecks-until I got my Oreck Platinum XL and the new small hand vac.
I have taken mine apart and was quite surprised at how well constructed and finished compared to some of the other new machines I have purchased in the last few years. This machine is such an imporvement over my first Yellow Oreck XL. I think the larger diameter tube and newer hepa bags are good and the new Oreck is quiet compared to my yellow machine.
The people at the Oreck store have been very helpful and when I called the Oreck 800# they even called me back in a few days to make sure I was happy with the results.
So I have changed my feelings about the Oreck. Yes it is a simple design but it works and I love the large bag, long cord, light weight and quieter motor.
Also love the small tank and really do enjoy the opptional wheel carriage you can purchase for the machine.
I think it is a much better machine than what I was expected.
Now I want the new Pilot!

I was an Oreck hater too !

I thought the Oreck was a piece of junk, I have that very same model. It is loud even compared to my Kirby's but then my friend at an oreck store sent me a XL21, And I tried it and it was a lot quieter and it picked up better then the old Oreck, so now I am in love with my OreckXL21 and I can't wait to get the new Oreck Pilot. The Oreck machines are great for a quick clean up, But they still aren't as good as my kirby's.
Just my too cents worth.......

Dan,
I agree with you. I am not really comparing the Oreck to my Kirby. That would be like comparing the ride of a Honda Civic to my Buick but I think the new Oreck keeps my house cleaner ONLY because it is so handy and I will use it more often. I also like the new front lights that really do serve a purpose of lighting the floor and the switch right under your fingers. After I got the Platinum XL I understand why so many people seem to love the machine. I was a real hard sell UNTIL I used one at the Oreck store.
I think I was comparing the Oreck Platinum more to some of the other new plastic machines at the same price point.
It seems to be a user friendly design with the big bag, long cord and light weight. Several non vac people who have tried it love the fact that it carries an extra belt and there is a place to store extra bags in the pocket on the back of the bag. Did you also notice that it is designed to hang on a clothes rod in the closet and you don't have to bend to wind the cord.
