Hoover Dustette hand-vacuum. It is Universal because it's a stair cleaner, a sofa cleaner, car cleaner, etc.

Okay, now that Crevicetool-Rick is officially pissed off...

I was browsing eBay, typed in "vintage Hoover", and found this. Opening bid was $19.99 or buy it now for $24.99, immediately knew I had to have it. I've always liked these blue and red Dustettes, and the fact that it's in good condition, has the box and paperwork, just screamed "buy me".

Hi John

I have 3 of these little wonders but did not know they could have a paper bag used with them. Can you tell me where to find them or what type/brand they are? Thanks Much ! Jim

How efficient are these straight-suction hand vacs? I've never had a Hoover Dustette but have had various other types and have found them pretty useless for cleaning upholstery without a revolving brush. I think the best hand vac, at least of the ones I've tried, is the old metal Royal. Its revolving brush and large exhaust opening make it a very efficient and thorough little cleaner. It gets the dog hair off of the sofa in a jiffy!

I think one of the stupidest hand vacs is the Electrolux, oh, what's it called -- it's gray plastic with a short upright handle. What makes it stupid is the way the exhaust port was designed. It goes off at a right angle, and the bag always flopping all over the place and getting in the way.

Plus it's noisy as hell. Screaming plastic crap.

Yes, Charles I must agree, the Royal Prince hand vac is one of the best hand vacs I've used. The Dirt Devil hand vac is not a bad choice either. I just bought a Prince at the flea market (in the original box with the bill of sale from 1989!) and it works wonders cleaning my Cadillac. For a hand vacuum I find the tools have ample suction. Thanks for telling me about the Little Lux II, it kinda reminds me of an electric sander but I can see how the offset bag could be a problem. I guess no tools are available for that one?

Well, it appears the design of the Little Lux was changed somewhat, with the bag coming straight off the exhaust port as it should have in the first place. See link.

But otherwise, it appears to be the same machine and if it is, it's a real screamer. And I doubt it cleans any better than the Royal [or later plastic Dirt Devil] hand vac. You really can't beat that as far as hand vacs go.

And no, the Little Lux does not have attachments.

One thing I do like is the Electrolux Sidekick. If I'm already vacuuming and have one of the "big" Electroluxes out, I'll use it. It's a real nice accessory.

Just thought I would let this go awhile,

and let you get comfortable thinking I didn't see it Alex.

But I did.

Nice Hoover.

Hummm....your room is on the second floor right?

You have a night light in there?

Have a good night's rest Alex.

Ah.

Let me know how it works out between you, my 5 highly trained German Shepherd guard dogs, and paps who is sitting on the front porch with his loaded shotgun.

Have fun.

Alex
