I think they made something very similar with runners. |

I've got one too, but it looks like the metallic blue color of mine is brighter, and it has a cord winder. It's a great machine and built like a tank! |

Sorry, haven't been on the computer in a couple days. First, both of your 966 tanks are beautiful machines. The 966 had a long run, from the mid-50's until Electro-Hygiene went out of business in the mid-80's, and was the very model of tank I demonstrated when I sold Electro-Hygiene in the 70's. I have two of them, one I bought brand new in 1974, and also bought a power nozzle for it later the same year when they became available. The other one I picked up at an estate sale a couple years ago. It is actually one of the first model 966, as it says P.A. Geier Company on the data plate instead of Royal Appliance Co. The two machines are almost identical, except the side trim on the older one is different, it has smaller rear wheels, and the switch button is gray instead of red. As for the relationship between Royal and Electro-Hygiene, both were made by Royal, and the founder of Electro-Hygiene, Art Frankenfeld (whom I met at a sales convention), started out selling Royals. At that time there were 3 models of Royal, called the Standard, the Super, and the Sanitizor, which had the same crystal chamber as the Hygienes. Art struck a deal with Phil Geier, starting the Electro-Hygiene Company, and Geier would build the Sanitizor model exclusively for Electro-Hygiene. And Charles, as for the older Electro-Hygiene photo you posted with the cloth hose, that is, to my knowledge, the VERY FIRST tank model Electro-Hygiene. Don't know the model number, but it is similar to the Royalaire model 186 that I have. I hope to find that model of Electro-Hygiene someday. And now, here is a model 950, the direct forerunner of the 966. I bought it last August from a collector who wishes to remain annonymous. Maybe this is the one Terry remembers that his aunt had.
