Hans,

You should be proud!

The pictures you have shared with us are wonderful. Vacuums in your collection are unusual, in great shape, and simply AWESOME.

It has been great having you back on board. I am not a Compact lover, but that machine looks to be in perfect condition. Does the hose still carry suction? How about the Air-Way?

Morgan

The hoses!

The Air Way hose is perfect, just as soft and flexible as new, holds suction perfectly, The Compact is still soft, but does leak some,it is still usable but not perfect.

Your lovely C4 again brings up the (my) questions about the elimination of the protruding hose receptacle on the bag lid, as on the C2. I'm guessing it was natural design evolution - it certainly imparts a sleeker look to the already streamlined shape.

But there must have been problems with it (cracked lids? bent hose couplers - I've seen a few?) because IEC went back to the previous lid design with the 1959 C5 and subsequent models.

Anyway, I am inspired to get out my C4 this afternoon to do a spring vacuuming of the car after which it will enjoy a full spa treatment and photo posing session. Compacts are legendary for their strong suction and I know this one pulls 68".

I have heard....

The reason for the flat lid model, was that the sharper angle of the inlet imparted a greater cyclonic action inside the bag, causing better performance as the bag filled, the downside in addition to the problems you mentioned were that the machine was more apt to tip over when pulled and the hose being bent at that greater angle was prone to fail....but the flat lid does retain good airlow even when nearly full.
