Can someone help me with my Electrolux TwinClean?

As the old saying goes, "Two heads are better than one!". Well, I'm hoping that one of you out there can help me figure out what's plaguing the newest member (age-wise) of my collection.

I have an Electrolux TwinClean canister that I got from the United Kingdom via eBay: it's identical to the version sold here in the 'States except that it runs on 240V as opposed to 110V. The machine's got exceptional suction ... until I put the dust container onto the machine. Then, the suction becomes as weak as water!

I've replaced the two main filters amd completely washed out the dust container (including the cyclone thingy inside of it): the only thing I haven't done is replace the filters at the back of the machine which are accessed by removing the dust container and unlatching a door on the back of the machine. I also haven't done anything with the hose for the simple fact that I haven't had it connected to the machine once.

I'm hoping that SOMEBODY can help me get this machine back to normal working condition: TwinCleans are soooooo expensive, and it took me a lot of effort to get this one so I'd really hate to write it off as a loss!

Is the hose plugged? Is there a path or duct that could be blocked between where the hose meets the machine, and the dust enters the dirt cup?

If you replaced the cup filters, and washed out the bin, as long as everything is lined up properly, the cup shouldn't be your problem. I doubt the filter on the back of the machine is part of the problem. But if it's really filthy you could sweep it off with another vacuum!

I work at a Eureka warranty center, and we see that whole lux range come in with a variety of odd problems.

Two things, I can think of. When you replace the bin,is there a gasket missing... or is there something such as a piece of kleenex or something caught in the cyclones.

If there is something caught in the cyclones, I would think the pitch of the motor would go up when you place the cyclone back on the machine.

If there is a gasket missing, you should be able to hear air leaking when you place your hand over the end of the hose.

I don't have any bagless machines in my collection, so I can't help much...just guessing.

I had a TwinClean not long ago...I ended up selling it to my friend Al (vacbear58). It's a lovely cleaner, solid, quiet and powerful, although the whole "self-cleaning" filter set-up was nothing more than a gimmick, really.

I really can't think what can be causing your suction issues, I'm afraid. I'll bet somewhere within the system, a piece of packing material has lodged itself during transit. Have you dismantled the cyclone itself? If I remember correctly, the non-hinged end with the vortex-finder should just pull (or twist?) off. Is something caught in there?

Thank you, everyone, for your responses! I'm pretty sure, though, that I've checked all of the items mentioned EXCEPT about missing gaskets. Next time I take the machine out of storage that'll be the first thing I check.
