Hey folks!

Been checking the Kirby 'Dirt Meters' out on ebay - and I can pick one up fairly cheaply - or so it seems...

I'm looking for one purely just to have a 'play' with one and see exactly what I can get out of my caprets and mattresses...

I know that some of you have used these in the past - but could you tell me - do you think it is worth the cost + shipping to Australia for one??

Cheers
Ste

The Dirt Meters are certainly a fun tool to have. I've never used the Kirby made ones but I do have the "Baird" cloth dirt meter which I run on the Gsix. Good quality, easy to use and with the cloth material being black, you can see every little particle it gets (especially after cleaning a mattress). The other cool thing about the Baird dirt meter, it inflates like a bag so it won't clog up as quickly. Either meter would be worth investing in (in my opinion).

I've never heard of a 'Baird Meter'

for a kirby... Interesting...

I see that I can get some 'pieces' for them on ebay - but not the whole 'assembly' as such... Any idea where I could get the whole set-up Matthew?

Cheers
Steve.

Hello Steve,

I have several Baird meters, new & used; 'cloth meters' & 'glass tops'; 'singles' & 'multis'.

I also have the regular Kirby dirt meters.

You may email me if you like, Steve.

take care & cheers,

I have one for my Diamond and love it. It scares me to find what lurks in my NEW mattres. I vacuum it every two weeks, or sometimes more often than that.

Lurking in mattresses...

That's the part that scares me!!! LOL We just purchased a new mattress for the guest bedroom and I really want to see what the Kirby could pull out of it...

I do our own mattress regularly (it has a double-pillow top) so I'm really quite particular about how clean it is (Hubby is uber bad asthmatic too) but am intrigued to see just how much small stuff there really is lurking in the lounge suite and mattresses...

Bill - I've just sent you an email - with a billion and one questions of course!

If anyone has any pics of the dirt meter in use - or the scary stuff you've discovered - I'd love to see them!

Cheers
Ste

Are there any Demonstration Kits for the Kirby Heritage II/Legend/Legend II? I have a Kirby Legend II which I absolutely love.
Thanks.

I remember one time when I worked for Areus Electrolux. I was demoing a Guardian and the lady told me that she had bought a new mattress just about two months before and would love to see what it pulled. What we did was take a cloth and tuck it down into the hose (wand end) and that made a small bag. I used the power nozzle and within about 30 seconds the vacuum shut off. The lady freaked out and said why did the vacuum shut off like that. I told her that the little makeshift bag was full. She couldn't believe that so I took it out and it was FULL. There must have been a cup of white dust in it.
I made that lady cry that day. I felt so bad, I never said anything it was just all the dust out of her new mattress. She was going to buy it right then and there but her hubby wasn't sold on the fact that a better class of vacuum was any better that Walmart. Needless to say I ran into them at Walmart getting a new $49.00 Bissell bagged powerforce and she kind of lowred her head in shame. lol The reason they went with the bag is because in my sales pitch I told them why bags are better. So at least they learned one thing from me.

Rob & H II Demo kits...

Hello Rob.

There were demo kits at that time. They were like the hard plastic demo kits today, only a tad smaller. I'm sure they would be a treat to find anymore.

hagd all

Kirby Mattress cleaning

Our office used to run contests for the "Nastiest Mattress dirt pads" It was gross! But it got people showing the mattress portion of the unit, and sold a lot of Kirbys!
