First, Thanks very much for the information. It gave me the guts to go ahead and get started. Now for where I am now:

The back of the xxx came off as described...except the on/off button (and its chrome surround) remained attached. I removed the screw in the bottom of this switch and the bracket that goes through the rear. Unfortunately, it still will not come out to free the rear housing for cleaning/polishing. The wires going into this switch have no connection at either end that I can see. How do I remove this switch and the chrome piece holding the handle and thus freeing the rear metal housing?

I figured out how to remove the "Electrolux" chrome from the sides of the xxx (only minor amounts of blood were involved) and the front ring seems simple now that the side panels are off. But the switch in the back is holding up the progress.

Any help would be continue to be greatly appreciated....I don't suppose anyone has a diagram on how the Rube Goldberg LX gizmo bag ejection actually works? I can see a vacuum tube going into the front lid and the trigger on the side but other than that, I'm at a loss. Also, what is that arge hollow tube under the bottom of the LX that is loosely held in place by 2 clips. I can't figure out how to remove it to clean it or what it's for. Same goes for the front cover (because of the eject stuff) and the side panels. My LX's are early ones with yellow/red side panels and no adjustment switches for the eject system.

Thanks much! Floyd in NC

LX - Bag Clip ?

""Also, what is that large hollow tube under the bottom of the LX that is loosely held in place by 2 clips. I can't figure out how to remove it to clean it or what it's for.""

I was puzzled about that also, If the picture is what you are talking about, it is a clip for holding extra bags. Very convenient.

lux xxx switch

just pull out the wires from the switch, they just plug into the switch. with the screw removed, the switch will pull out.

XXX Switch

There are two steel C-shaped bars that slide to the front of the switch cover. Slide them in the direction of the handle. Then push down the switch button and while holding it down, Tilt the switch out of the cover as you did the C-shaped bars. That should do it
