For Christmas, Santa (Robert) brought me two Dysons!

First, after lusting after the DC-23 turbinehead in that thread Rob started a few weeks back, I finally have my own!

Here's me right after opening it...

Using it...

I only had time to buzz it quickly through the hallway upstairs.. but am impressed so far! Although the carpet really wasn't very dirty...

Then....

I also got a DC-25 ball.

I'm thinking that this is going to get traded in and upgraded to the DC-28 with that pneumatic actuator...

Any opinions on this?

I'm sooooo jealous. :D

Personally I'd keep the DC25, but that's just me. :)

My Christmas presents

Fred,
Hope you like your DC23. I have been impressed with it's performance and user friendly design. I was using mine (ok-just playing) with mine last evening in vacuumland after all the Christmas company left. Did the size of the boxes give it away? I measured the wraped box last Christmas to see if it was a new Dyson! Let us know how you like the ball.
Rob

Fred,

Gotta wonder what those fine, classic Hoovers were thinking about that Dyson! Have fun with your new toys!

BTW, Who's Robert?

DC25 vs. DC28

Hey Fred,

it's a tough question! Since I haven't used the DC28 myself (like the DC17, it was designed purely to meet the requirements of the US market), I can't offer much personal insight into the performance. I did spend some time chatting to some of the guys who designed it though, and they're very enthusiastic about it (as you might expect!).

Airmuscle technology is just about the most sophisticated height adjustment on a vacuum since the Hoover 150's floating chassis - so advanced your car will be jealous! Little details like the light-up selector pad are extremely cool, and Dyson made the housing for the brush-bar transparent, so you can marvel at the brush-bar extending and retracting, and the powered cam rotating!

As for the DC25, I love it. If I had to pick just one Dyson from my current collection to use for the rest of my life, that would be it. But then, I don't have the option of the DC28! Would I feel differently if I did? Hard to say...as with the Miele S7 and the Hoover Slalom, I do LOVE the ability to 'steer', and I miss that when I'm using a wheeled cleaner.

A few points to consider:

- the DC28 is slightly more powerful than the DC25. Pick-up from floors should be great with both, but suction through the hose will be a little stronger with the DC28. This is a mixed blessing; you'll have more cleaning power, but the hose might fight against you a bit more! How much do you see yourself using the tools?

- the DC28 is about 4lbs heavier than the DC25. How much will you have to carry it about?

- the DC28 has around twice the bin capacity of the DC25, so you won't have to empty it as often

- the DC28 has a longer power-cord

- the DC28 costs $50 more than the DC25, although I guess this depends where you buy it...

- the hose/wand/tools are the same for both models. Both use the new 'click-fit' connections, so they're both compatible with any of the 'extra cost' tools. If you didn't already get the soft dusting brush with your DC23, I highly recommend it!

Sorry I can’t be more help here, but is there anywhere you could try both models out before making a purchase? There’s nothing like a little personal experience to help make your mind up!

Well... After much indecision...

We have a winner!

I decided to go with the DC28. But not after a long back-and-forth with all of the Dysons at Best Buy.

We got there, and I was sure I wanted the DC28. Until I started playing with the DC23 Motorhead. I started convincing myself that it was superior to the DC23 Turbinehead (because in all honesty, I was a bit disappointed with the actual turbine-head). So, then it was more a matter of choosing between the DC28 and the DC23 Motorhead. (And if I got the DC23 Motorhead, I would then take back the Turbinehead). But then I was one vacuum short. Do I then get the Hoover Platinum Series Lightweight? Or do I get maybe a Dyson DC24 (the ball-mini)...

Oh, decisions, decisions. So, we left the store with the DC23 Motorhead, and went to dinner. Over dinner, I wasn't quite pleased with my decision. I started thinking about it more and more. While I love having an electric powerhead and would love the longer hose, there's something just so un-appealing about trying to use the upholstery tool on the end of the Motorhead's wand while it's collapsed. Such an awkward setup when comparing it to how the tools attach to the Turbinehead.

So, then we took the DC23 Motorhead back to Best Buy and finally exchanged it for the DC28.

And, I think I did make the right decision. Although, I must say, that DC28 really sucks itself to the carpet! It is one cleaner that means clean. It's almost too powerful??

I do really like the Flatout floor tool that came with the DC28, and am happy that it and the turbine hand tool work on the DC23. Although I still want the soft-bristle hard floor tool and the soft dusting brush.

I wish the DC27 wasn't an exclusive cleaner to Sam's club. Otherwise I'd go try one of those to see the difference in how tight it sucks to the carpet.
Or I may just decide to stop being indecisive, and enjoy my fabulous gifts!

~F

In use!

Giving it the run upstairs!

I love how it grooms the carpet!

Very nice, Fred. I love my Dyson, and I'm sure you will too. The DC28 is a nice machine! I like that it has a real height adjustment instead of the pretend pivoting sole plate like previous models. And a "real" brushroll! I wish it still came with the dedicated upholstery and dusting brushes instead of that silly combo thing. I totally understand why you had a hard time deciding... the turbo nozzles leave me underwhelmed as well. Have fun!

My Christmas presents

Fred,
I think you made some good choices! Hope I didn't give you the wrong impression with the turbine nozzle. I think it does a great job (for a turbine nozzle). It does not clean like an old Hoover but I was surprised at how much it did pull out.
The Dysons look so good UNTIL you take a picture next to all your beautiful old Hoovers! lol
I love the design and use of the Dysons and NO leaking dust but I still have the problem of getting over the cheap looking plastic with no lights. I had to ADJUST my thinking and learn to appreciate the technology of the machines. They are wonderful and fun to use. It just took me a while to come around thanks to Sam.

Does anyone know how stiff the brushroll is on the DC28?

Your Right Fred !

I only have one Dyson and I must say I have learned to appreciate it. Wanted at least one and have it because someone gave it to me.
So I would say your final decision to appreciate what have
is the best. I do say that I am wishing had an admiring partner
that would spend his money on a new Dyson for me !! LOL.
Then again, I appreciate the one (dyson) that I do have !
Hope I wished you a happy birthday! If not I sure do !
Norm
