From a viewer of the forum:

Fred,

I was wondering if you had a pics, photos or info on any of the Westinghouse tank vacuums from the late 40s or early 50s.

I remember seeing a re-run episode of "I Love Lucy" where she buys a Handy Dandy Vacuum Cleaner, and I think it was a Westinghouse tank cleaner.

I find it sad that the 'tank style' vacuum is not common today. I believe that there are only a few manufacture companies that make this style vacuum: ie: Aerus/electrolux, Metropolitian vac. co.}

Thank you.

A double page advertisement from, I think, Life or Look magazine, date unknown but reasonably guessable. Spokesmodel Betty Furness advises on Shortcut Cleaning with the Model T6 tanks.

The T-4 is from 1950, the T-6 I'm guessing is post-1955?

Mine came with the wands and 3 tools but no hose, just the ends. The original vinyl coil hose with the orchid-coloured T-6 was burgundy like the tools. Cloest I could find is a dark red Kirby hose - they have the same thread pitch and dia so this is allowed. lol. One of the Kirby G series has a burgundy hose...for all you hose-less T-6ers out there.

T-6...ain't that the Terminator?

Dave.

Could Have Been 1955, But Not After

As it was about that time that they were switching over from tanks to cannisters. For example, my SC-1 was built in 1956, the year I was born. Equipped as seen here, this one belonged to my Aunt Lu, whose husband worked at the Westinghouse plant in Mansfield, OH most of his life.
Everything is original except for the hose and cord, and it's a powerful and fairly quiet machine, but doesn't look quite as good as it does in the photo. I got it when my Aunt and Uncle went into assisted living in 2001.
