That is the best glam shot of the AE, my favorite!!! Great detail of that braided hose and boy would I like to find some of those old blue Elux dust bags.

Thank you Miss Hamilton.

That IS a beautiful ad isn't it.

It's one of my favorites too!

A few years ago I won an eBay bid for one of the stout cardbox cartons that bags ("wrappers" as they were called when first introduced) for the LX came in -- it's a large, heavy-walled cardboard box that is a little larger than the overall size of the bag and then about 5" deep. You can see it in the link below in the photo of the LX Beauty Shot.

Anyway, the listing did not say anything about the box containing anything and I didn't ask. I was happy just to get the box. Well, when it came, inside were four of the original blue bags! The same bags were used for the AE as for the E, LXI and LX.

Did you know that back in that day when the bags were first introduced, they were assembled by hand?! They had a crew of little old ladies who sewed the paper bag on sewing machines, then the rubber membranes were glued onto the innwer surface of the cardboard top and then the top was glued to the bag -- all done by hand!! One of the big advances Electrolux made in the mid 1950s, which is spoken of in some of the old literature I have, was when an automated bag making machine was designed and put into action.

forgot the link...

here it is...

(Scroll down and you can see some good shots of the box and the first 'wrapper' I ever got, given to me about 14 years ago by Alex Taber. (Anyone heard from him btw?? Hope he's okay.])

Loved the ad--and the Automatic E is one of my favorite Electroluxes, along with the model G and the ever popular XXX. I'm happy to have all 3 of these in my collection.

In due time, Charles. But I have to take some pictures, first. Unfortunately, I'm one of those people with too many irons in the fire. Always something to do, and when it seems like there isn't, there's always something I SHOULD be doing. And one of these irons in the fire is getting some painting done around here so I'll have a good background to photograph against. Right now the kitchen is the best looking room in the house, but it's a bit crowded to set up a display and take pictures. You have my word, as soon as I can, I will. But for now, I'll just continue to enjoy everyone else's photos.
Jeff
