Hello All:

What was the bagless canister vacuum that Sears offered back in the early 2000s...that was made by Eureka and looked like a bagless American Electrolux vac? If my memory is OK, the machine was a translucent blue color. Can anyone provide me with the details? I remember that there was some discussion of the vac on the old VacWeb forum.

I can see the vacuum in my mind's eye, but can't remember the particulars.

Thanks,

Joe

you don't mean the magic blue, do you?

It had a cord winder and a quick release power nozzle with a belt view window. The brushroll was nothing special... just eurekas typical brushroll with stiff bristles and no contours or beater bars. The power switch was on the machine itself right across from the cord wind pedal. The dirt chamber didn't seem to stay seated well. I liked looking at it, the translucent blue and long skinny shape were great. They were closing it out about the time I started selling vacuums at Sears. The few we sold were returned. I can't find any pictures online! I wish I had more details, but that was a long time ago!

Is this the vacuum you are referring to? I had it for about a year and then sold it

What did you think of it? I thought it was an interesting design.

That's the one...

I don't care for bagless vacuums, but this one caught my eye when it was in the stores...wouldn't mind finding one some day in my travels.

Before being sold as a 110-Volt vacuum in North America....

this was being sold in Europe as a 220-Volt Swedish Electrolux product without a power nozzle. I actually think both 110-volt and 220-volt versions (Electrolux, Eureka, Sears Kenmore) may have been manufactured in the UK, if I am not mistaken.

Is this correct, vac fans on the other side of the Atlantic?

Here's our version of the machine, from an old Argos catalogue. If I remember correctly, it was on sale in the UK sometime in the late '90s...

The American version of the machine was made in Sweden and used American Eureka tools (the wonderful Eureka square dusting brush). It is a rather striking looking machine and is vaguely reminiscent of the model XXX/LX Electroluxes of old.

I bought one on closeout from Sears years ago, and it and the Eureka branded version disappeared from the map. I don't know if parts are available any more. The weak part of the design is the filter between the dust bin and the motor. Airflow is tremendous and it is an excellent carpet cleaner, but you must wash the filter on a regular basis. This is my only bagless machine and this may be normal care, but I sure like tossing a new bag in a machine as opposed to washing a filter and waiting for it to dry....

I didn't mind using the vac. It had good suction, wasn't too loud. I found the hose a little too short and the floor tool wasn't the best. I did like the old eureka style upholstery nozzle and the square dusting brush.

I just found one today at a pawn shop. The switch was stuck so it didn't turn off. It wasn't too loud, had decent suction. According to the date on the price tag, it had just come out from the back, which meant that someone defaulted on it. I think $49 is too much, and most pawn shops are rife with bagless machines so no one will give this one a second look. I'll go back in a month a talk em down if it's still there. I must say, the HEPA filter on this machine was spotless and the secondary filter was filthy. I suppose this is typical for bagless.
