Well believe or not this was given to me today as an even trade for fixing up a Dyson DC07 which needs a few parts. This was owned by an elderly man who has just passed, but the daughter apparently wanted to keep the DC07 since it was bagless.

No problem, I'll take that right off your hands! I did an initial inspection today at lunch, it's got no deep scratches in the aluminum which I'll be able to buff out no problem! I'll just to order a few replacement pieces to offically call this gently used!

My lucky Monday! The bag smells like vomit though, so to the Leeling spa this goes!

Andrew

WOW!

Congrats! What a trade!

Is it the older one with the metal base pan and twist style bags?

Yep has the metal pan. I'll have to sort out the date of manufacture when I get home, but I'm estimating late 2006 or 2007 when these first started to come out.

Could a Kirby expert tell me with what serial numbers Kirby started incorporating a plastic base pan? I'm pretty sure mine is metal, but now I'm curious. Thanks.

That poor old man must have been forced into buying it. Like all of the old people living alone.

This was pretty easy, it didn't really need anything other than a lot of detailing and some Mothers aluminum polish. I removed the cloth bag and disinfected it, the emtor and fill tube with Mr Clean, then washed the bag inside out in Woolite in the washer. The fan isn't even knicked in this, and the commutator doesn't even appear to be fully worn in!

It must have it's original belt, which came off the pulley because there was so much hair built up. "It doesn't pick up very well."

3 hours and a sore right arm later...

Sentria Bag System

bimmer740's profile picture
Does anyone have a picture of the new Kirby bag system? I had noticed recently on the kirby site there is now an "F" style bag, so Im assuming that is the new one.

Andrew, Congrats! The Sentria is beautiful, I'd love to have one but since I have the same Diamond Edition you have, I dont really have a need for a new one. I do love the Diamond Edition, I bought it NIB when it was the current outgoing model, and I know Im going to have it for a long time!

Which do you prefer, Andrew? You told me in the past that your Diamond was one of your favorites. I think I would miss the 2 speed switch on the Diamond that I use all the time.

Wow, you are lucky. I've never liked the way the Sentria looks. I hope the new model looks more like a G4.

Kirby sales to Elderly

While a lot of older (and younger) folks are pressured into buying Kirbys, not everyone is. This Old Man could have been a die-hard Kirby fan from way back. He could have bought it from a grandchild, niece or nephew. In my days of selling Kirbys I listened to my heart, and if they could not afford it, or were incapable of using it, I cleaned their carpet and left.

The Kirby folks stopped by my brothers house one day a couple of weeks ago as they were canvassing the neighborhood. They knocked on his door and offered to show him the Sentria. When they asked what vacuum he currently had, me told them about the G4 I had given him as a housewarming gift - they immediately left - no pressure.

That is such a pretty machine. I think one of the prettiest.

One day I'll find one... :-)

What is the Leeling Spa?
Is it that cabinet I saw an ad for in VDTA that zaps the vacuum with uv light and ozone!

Newer G10D Sentria bag assembly.

I'm sure this post is long done but here's a pic of the later run Sentria G10D bag assembly. Features 1 piece mini compact EmpTor, snap on fill tube in a slightly larger diameter and most noticeable change is back to the straight line zipper making it much easier to fit them big cloth HEPA bags in or any bag for that matter. This is a summer 2011 run of the G10D Sentria.

Kristopher

P.S. Yes, that's our favorite classic 1965 Kirby Dual Sanitronic 50 in side left view & our vintage 1956 Seeburg 200 Select-O-Matic jukebox VL 200-D behind them both

Straight vs. curved zippers

Elektrolux wrote: "...most noticeable change is back to the straight line zipper making it much easier to fit them big cloth HEPA bags in or any bag for that matter."

I reply: Perhaps they also did it to cut manufacturing costs by using a shorter zipper and a simplified bag design. Personally, I like the curved zipper as I find it gives better access at the top. Maybe the experience is different with the newer F-style bags that just snap straight on. My curved zipper bag is from an Ultimate G and retrofitted onto my G5, so it takes the older style bags that rotate on and off. The curved zipper definitely helps with those.
