Yeah, I know, it's actually Candy Apple Metalflake with a somewhat streamlined handle and power brushroll base with detachable bageless canister. But I was always taken with the design and concept when these came out. Since rescued from the trash two of them, in differing states of damage. Recalling Rob Mitchell's post about his new shimmering green Germ Guardian that detached from it's base to become a cylinder on wheels I decided it was time to investigate if I could get one of the Bissells operational. To begin with both had their cords cut off. Found a nice flexible long one off a wrecked Hoover stickvac. check! One lift-off had a cracked bin, broken cord hook and massive gouges in the cylinder's paint. But the brushroll base was unmarred and clean. It also had the tools, wands, hose, and all the foam and hepa filters. The other one had virtually perfect paint with cord hooks intact and clean bins but the base had been sitting in water, seizing the brushroll motor and corroding away the connection pins for the canister. The brushroll was quite worn down and sticky with aromatic wet pet hair. yuck. Systematically took them apart, selecting the best parts & washing them down for reassembly. Here the cylinders are side by side for the wiring harness switchover - the front of one to be joined to the back of the other. Felix, as always, is fascinated and raptly attentive... Cylinder pulls a respectable 85" through the hose. check! Turning to the the power nozzle base and handle, switched in the other pn power cord socket on clean base & partz, tested with cylinder in place, then joined base up with cosmetically perfect handle that carry's the rear wheels. Nice power nozzle design with an almost central intake. |
