Well, I was welcomed into the club and promptly bid and won two more Electroluxes on Ebay. The first win was a dud. It was advertised as a "diamond" canister with a "Perfect" canister in the picture. I had a few reservations, but I got it for 20 bucks plus a fortune in shipping. When I received it, it was an old Olympia canister with a mismatched power nozzle, a broken wand assembly, and a note that cautioned against pulling the power cord beyond a piece of red tape. The seller offered to accept the item back, but I don't want to spend the postage. I will sell it at a garage sale next week. Really, I learned a lesson on this one.
The second buy was better. It was for a recent model Guardian. It looks almost perfect cosmetically. However, if I try to test the suction, it shuts off immediately. Wonder if anyone out there knows the cause of this. The bag is empty, but it thinks it is full. I now wonder if the machine hadn't overheated or something a long time ago. It works fairly well, but not as well as it should. Should I take it to an Electrolux shop or an independent vacuum shop or?
I have been reading the forums religiously for a week now. I get my daily fix and love the vacuum of the day and all the conversations about vacuums. I think I am ready to venture beyond Electroluxes. However, my partner isn't so happy about all our storage being used up so soon.
Thanks everyone for sharing my great obsession!
Jay
