The broken cord holder must have been a problematic design flaw with this machine. The one I just sold had had the same problem at some point in time and was also reglued, although I will say the repair job on mine was much cleaner - you could barely see it and there was no visible glue like there is on this one.

It's a neat "curiosity" from Hoover History and I was sorry to have to pass mine on to someone else so soon. But "life goes on."

You mean to say, Charles, you already had to sell that Hoover Convertible you just received with the broken handle bail? I know how upset you were having received the cleaner that way. I just bought a Dirt Devil upright off eBay with a broken base assembly, rendering the cleaner almost totally useless. I think the worst was when I received my only twin-motor Air-Way Sanitary System off eBay and in shipping, the pot metal collar assembly that supports the power head broke apart. I did get a partial refund, but it's a shame in that it's a piece of vacuum cleaner history lost forever. I guess having lost the garage workshop has forced upon you a considerable downsize. I may be in the same predicament in the not too distant future....

I'm sorry to hear that.

Well, time flies sometimes ... I "just received" the 704-01 back in April! I was able to get an exact replacement from a donor machine compliments of Fred Stachnick. Then, yes, with the totally unexpected garage calamity, I am having to GREATLY reduce the size and content of my collection. I've only just gotten started on that very disheartening task.

More clearly, I should have said "I just received a replacement handle bale from a donor machine..."

GOOD LORD, my brain sure is full today.

I ***should*** have said...

"I was able to get an exact handle bale replacement from a donor machine compliments of Fred Stachnick."

I'm going away now.......

I'd love to have one of them. I don't think it was a great marvel from "Maple Street"
