Genuine Lux 4-ply bags have always been had great filtration and protection, but there is always the chance of one bursting due to accidentilly sucking up a very small amount of moisture or the bag might just be old,It has happened to me on other machines,What made me think of this ,I was putting a new bag in my Silverado that has always has Genuine Lux bags and the bag chamber, and motor are immaculate, but the bags are original from being bought in bulk and vintage to the machine, made me think a premotor filter might be a good idea, I bought this electrostatic A/C filter, that didn't work well with My Friedrick window unit, it ruduced the air flow too much, but works very well with vacuums, no reduction in suction at all,has to provide some protection, better than nothing at all,Works well with mine just thought I would pass it along.

Most canisters and cleanair uprights have some sort of filter, here is the A/C electostatic filter, avaliable at most home improvement stores.

Why Lux doesn't have a motor filter has been always a mystery to me.I have seen MANY of these machines at Manassas Vacuum with dirty fans or even blown motors becuase of this-a bag bursting or tearing causing its contents to get into the motor fans and motor. In one example a BB from the bag tore up the fans and blew the motor!I have also cut or adapted other brands of vac filters to fit Lux.I always remember that motor that took in a BB from a torn bag.Other canister builders and clean air upright makers use the motor filter-Why not Lux?Just good insurance.Motors are COSTLY to replace!

They have one in their uprights. I have wondered about this also.
