Decided to strip the van of it' seats in order to load vacuum tonnage from North Carolina! I told the seller what I had to load it in and he said....eh....I don't know....but you're welcome to make more than one trip!

After 2. Naturally, the Super Chief had to get into the picture. I had a talk with it, I think it's OK with other machines coming into the house. I just don't turn my back to it.

You could work for one of the local funeral homes now with all that available space. Good luck on the trip. Say hi to Hans. John Lucia

Now don't forget a few old quilts/blankets to cushion each layer and protect the van's sidewalls on those screeching turns down the Turnpike. With all that room and that origami mind of yours you'll easily fit 60 or so vacuums, a few boxes of unsorted tools,, wands and the spaghetti String-Art of hoses on top without passing the windowsills. Clear packing tape is a great way to keep scribbled identifying post-it notes from falling off.

The major fun of sorting it all out can wait until you get home, just don't neglect to take notes and pictures, pictures, pictures.

Dave, so with you in spirit.

Well, I'm gonna check in with Terry.......

Then hit the sack. Gettin' up at 4:30. That way I can leave by noon for NC. (Takes a while to do my hair). See everyone tomorrow!

Al, Thanks for asking about the Super Chief. I'll start a thread now so I won't forget, but I've got "before" pictures of that machine. I don't know a whole lot about it, other than it was made by Landers Frary & Clark (Universal) for sale in locations not serviced by the Universal name. I'll post those pictures when I get back.

Rick

Terry

Ps. The Super Chief just phoned me!! He has decided to run away from home and of course I told him he could come and live here!! (Ducking and Running)

update #3

Rick made it to Hutson just fine! He is loaded and on his way home. OH MY!!!! There was so much more stuff than we thought! He loaded right at 170 boxes all of the hoses, and 4 machines. That means he is going to have to make another trip back for the other 50 plus machines!!! Stayed tuned!!

Terry

I couldn't get a picture of the actual store, I will next trip. The proprietors were in a bit of a hurry to have me load the stuff up!

This is the view from the front seat towards the rear of the van. As you can see, I boxed myself in pretty well!

Post# 79118 , Reply# 20   8/22/2009 at 20:40 (5,353 days old) by crevicetool (GA )

The first five boxes are appliance parts, starting with the taller stack toward the garage is all vacuum stuff, except for the manuals in front of everything.

Holy Cow, Rick, so much more than expected! All those boxes of mystery parts and wands for days. :-)We don't even know if those are all extra hoses, yet...inquiring minds must have patience. Rick deserves a long sleep-in before an extensive photo inventory.

Terry , I think you should ride shotgun on the final vacuum trip...surely you can balance a couple of vacuums on your lap all the way back to Snellville. :-)

Anyway, I'm playing 'Name That Hose' for now...

Dave

Rick...

You should have rented a U-Haul....LOL

Looks like a lot of great parts, vacuuums, ect.

My collection has to start thinning out...the area designated in the basement is at it's max...the neat freak in me won't allow them to be all over the house. Besides the fact that Mark would hurt me...LOL Seeing your pictures..reminded me...

Hopefully you will find some great parts for some of your rebuilds.

Morgan

Yes, I too view this treasure trove with mixed feelings.

On one hand, I would have been right there doing the same thing were I in your shoes. The "thrill of the hunt" -- imaging what rare and glorious treasures await my probing hands. (Hmmm, sounds like a proctological exam gone awry ... uh, never mind...!)

On the other hand, I view my present very messy predicament and my mind is shouting "NO MORE VACUUM CLEANERS!!!" Oh, wait ... that wasn't my mind shouting, it was my partner Arlee (same old refrain). But actually, I'm starting to feel the same way.............

Since I don't have an outbuilding, and a roommate with numerous posessions, I can't do anything here, even though I did a lot of things anyway. I hate being held prisoner in a toxic situation.

Wow, Sorry you have to make 2 trips
guess a uhaul would have been the way to go.

You can sort out the manuals & hopefully get rid of some of that as I think the guy said they are mostly appliance not vacuums manuals.

Leaving right now for the machines! Once unloaded and (with daylight available).....I'll take some pictures!

See ya later.

I hope to post pictures of the machines...

this weekend after they get organised. In the mean time here's some pictures of the store that we got them from, and some nifty things inside.

Yesteryear's.

The building was built over a hundred years ago. It was a hardware store from 1945 until 2004.

The store had this balcony level between the main and upermost floors.

Third floor, fourth - if you consider the basement. My grandparents' farm house was heated with two of these oil burners. There was a hole cut in the ceiling above to heat the upstairs!

And this is what my garage looks like.

It was 1:30 AM as I put the last seat back in the van. There is a small passage-way to get to the door. Gotta fix that situation real quick!

It started to rain just as I took the garage picture. Hopefully this week end, I'll get some of them laid out so you can see them all.
