Less than half an hour ago, I took delivery on another Dyson I have wanted for some time.

The original DC15 Ball.

Not as hard to get hold off as the DC03i I got yesterday, but becoming more and more scarce in the UK. I got mine from Comet's website and I see that it no longer appears, so I guess I got one of the last few. The box was absolutely filthy, but a damp cloth soon sorted that out.

I have to say I am very impressed. It has a decent brushroll and grooms my carpets better than any other Dyson I've owned.
Not only that, it is much quieter than any other Dyson I've used. It's not as tidy looking as the DC25 Ball, but I like it.

I'm posting a few pics.

Brilliant brushroll and chrome base plate. I will try the cleaner with the large debris channel blocked up to see what a difference it makes.

DC15 Hose

Didn't know this - hose flips down in use. A bit like the Miele S7.

Hi Roger - another one I'm envious of!

I was tempted by the DC15 when it was launched, but I was put off slightly by the price, and I thought the rectractable rear wheel system felt flimsy and over-complicated.

When the DC24 and D25 came out, I was impressed by how much they'd lightened, strengthened and simplified the design, and I love how compact the DC24 is. I think the DC25 has a really good brush-roll, too.

I will eventually add the DC15 to my collection, but it's another one which will have to wait a while. And I doubt mine will be brand-new, either!

Jack,

I really love the DC15!

After my poor experience with the DC27 I went off Dyson, but this model has got the brand back into my good books.

I have blocked up the large debris channel and wow! This cleaner kicks bottom! It lifts the carpet and grooms it superbly. Saying that, it is heavy, but not hard to push.

Looking at the cleaner closely, it is probably the most complicated and over designed Dyson ever produced. The DC25 looks far less fussy. I will certainly add a DC25 to my collection at some point and if it performs like the DC15, it may make it into my regular drivers section. I know the DC25 is lighter and has a decent looking brushroll, so I don't think I will be disappointed. I have been happy with all the twin motor Dysons I own. The DC18, DC24 and now the DC15 and think that twin motored uprights are the way to go.

Jack, you may be interested in the link. I know I'm sad, but I love watching all the vacuum demos from HSN. Dyson has Dave Shimkiss and Hoover/Dirt Devil have Julie Truster. The link shows the DC15 All Floors. The American version has a visible brushroll which looks good, but after a few weeks use, it will probably become opaque like the bin.

Thanks for your interest.

Hi Roger - I agree about the large debris channel, and I was pleased to see it's been dropped from all new Dyson models. I sealed it up on the DC14 All Floors I used to have, and I'm pleased they didn't include it on the DC14 Origin, or the DC27.
I was pleased when I saw the DC25 for the first time that they'd tried so hard to make the design much more simple and integrated. I think that when you get the DC25, you'll be even more impressed than you were with the DC15!

Once the Digital Motor is launched range-wide, all of the flagship models will be of the twin-motor design. BTW, the reason why the UK has not yet had any vacuum cleaners using the DDM is that the Airblade is so popular, Dyson's motor-production facilities are running at capacity to supply them with motors, and they can't yet make enough for their vacuums as well!

I like watching the HSN demos too! I think they actually say very little about the product itself, but I find them entertaining!

Have you seen this video? You can see some interesting prototypes in the background, including a Ball machine with the DC11's twin-chamber design! Also, it shows the kind of people who are behind new Dyson products; bright young engineers with a passion for design. It's not the evil, faceless corporation detractors try and make it out to be!

Hi Jack,

Yes I've seen that video. In fact, I have it on a DVD Dyson produced when the DC15 was launched. It was on the front cover of the trade magazine ERT, along with a full page ad.

I bet you'd like to visit Dyson's R&D department. I bet some of those prototypes would make a fortune on Ebay!

Dyson have appeared on QVC in the UK. I only saw one show and managed to record it. It featured the DC24, DC16 and DC23 Motorhead. The man demonstrating the cleaners was one of the Dyson designers.

Oooooh! That's interesting

The prototype in the background looks as though it has a floor head like that of the DC03 upright, coupled to a DC11-style bin.

What a pity the Airblade has priority for the Digital Motor; I'm dying to see Which? Magazine's test results for a UK vacuum with it fitted. Maybe Dyson will have to build another factory to make more motors?

I'd love to visit the R&D dept at Dyson!! Unfortunately, it's like getting into Fort Knox - fingerprint recognition doors, etc. Only one gentleman's fingerprints allow him 100% access to all of Dyson HQ...
