Well I finaly found the time to pic up my L model Electrolux with european motor (220) volt. T do not understand the atachments that are with it because they are different than on all the pictures I can find about this model. the small atachment and the rug nozzle are in the color light grey/ dark grey, and the metal end of the hose does belong to an E model I think. Can somebody help me out?

the metal end of the hose with the suction adjustment on the upper (hose) site. The previous owner says that only the hose is replaced and the out side parts of the hose are still original.

That model "L" is too new to have that old of a hose end. And the owner slipped a hose OVER the swivel portion. That "L" wold have come with a nice saran woven hose with a cream colored plastic handle, and It could have been either an electric hose with a pigtail, or a non-electric hose. Aluminum wands, not steel, and floor tool to compliment the machine. That grey/blue doesn't go with it. The dusting/upholstery tool would also have been creamish colored.

It may have been made up with some extra parts from other machines. I'm sure that someone will be able to post a picture of the complete unit.

Rick

Forgot to mention, I think the swivel connector on the floor/rug tool would have been plastic by this time too, but I'm not positive about that.

strange

This machine was shipped over almost 30 years ago. It is not possible to find atachments like this over here. so I do believe the lady when she says that this are the things it came with. That is also why I asked the question.

Hi All! From my experience with the Model L, which my Grandparents bought one new, the floor tool is the same blue color as the machine with the steel connecter, and the dusting/ upholstery tool would have been the same blue color, and so would the crevice tool. Later, Trg

this is what the other model looks like

This is my other model L that Doug sended me a year ago. So i know that it should look like this. R=THe strange thing for me is that it is impossible to replace the original things for atachments of an earlyer model over here in holland. its a mysterie lol

Post# 78252 , Reply# 10   8/12/2009 at 18:17 (5,341 days old) by crevicetool (GA )

There were four color versions to the model "L". White, with turquoise trim,

Tan/brown with brown wheels and white lettering/handle

Wonderful sky blue color (matches my eyes) with white trim

And then the gold unit that was sold as the economy model along with the Golden J, and Super J's. I'm pretty sure the hose to this machine had the plastic hand grip with the suction control that slid on the non-electric hose. The electric hose had was the same as the "supers" except for the pig-tail. The hose should be off-white, perhaps gold, with tracers of gold/blue. It's been a long while since I've seen a complete gold "L". but this is how I remember it. I know the tools for the golden/super J's were cream colored (matched the wheels) and may have also had gold/yellow on it too. The bare floor side should be the same color as the machine. Still not sure about the swivel connector.

Edgar. I have never seen that color of Lux "L". One of our Canadian Lux experts will have to chime in. The models I talked about were US built machines. That one appears to be a mustard color. Looks great though!!!

the color is strange 2

I put the 2 off them next to eachother and the one i picked up today is brighter blue with a metallic glaze over it. The original is just blue without the sparkle. When you put it in bright lighting it is almost green, strange

I'm wondering now if it was gold metallic painted over a blue,(and older) model "L". If a factory painted machine was scratched, there wouldn't be blue under the gold. A gray primer perhaps but not blue.

Your blue L definitely has been painted. It is clear even in the photos that it's actually just a spray-paint job. The paint is too uneven and blotchy to be a factory-original finish.

The curved hose end and combination floor tool are from a Model F.

P.S.: The combination dusting brush is also from a Model F.

Hey Rick....and others....

how do you know which machines came with aluminum wands and which ones came with chrome wands? I also have a model 2000 Lux which actually appears to have come with one aluminum wand and one plastic wand (?). Is this possible?

Post# 78290 , Reply# 19   8/13/2009 at 01:19 (5,341 days old) by electrolux~137 ()

In the U.S., Electroluxes had chrome-plated steel wands until the Model AE in 1956 when aluminum wands were first introduced. The AE actually was a crossover model -- I've seen AEs with both steel and aluminum wands. The one my parents had had steel wands.

The AE aluminum wands had a matte 'brushed' finish, then when the AF came out, the aluminum surface was smoother and had a slight sheen. That same wand was made until the plastic Electroluxes came out with plastic wands. Erugh. Barf. Icky-poo.

If your Electrolux has one aluminum and one steel wand, then they've just gotten mis-matched somewhere along the way.

I'm wondering if it has a real lux motor or an aftermarket unit, like an Lamb motor. I think that would be easier than having the original modified.

hi

edgar's profile picture
my boy friend and I thought it was repainted at first to. But the stickers on it are verry old, and there are no traces of paint on it. I have mailed the lady and hope to get some answers soon. She told me that the motor was modified so I will open it up this week and we will see.

Hey Edgar:

The parts that are with your L are actually from a model F. If they were with it when she bought it then she bought it used.

As far as the colour goes I suspect it just needs a good cleaning. It looks like its been in a house with a heavy smoker.

the answer

edgar's profile picture
Hi everybody,the mystery is solved.
The vacuum cleaner is bought in a second hand store in 1968 by the lady's father. In 1973 they moved to holland and took the cleaner with them. 1973 is also the year that the motor was rewired for 220 volt. THe atachments has always been with it, but it is possible that a second hand store in new york called MR Grey made 1 out of 2. After cleaning it still keeps this strange shine so I want to take the whole thing appart shave it and re paint it. Ater i decide wich color it will be ( i think white i will start looking for the atachments.

If life for that machine began that early, than I would definitely say that it has been repainted. The gold US model came out around the time of the Golden J which would put it at 1974, being the anniversary year. The sticker may have been placed on the machine when it was brought in for servicing.

Have fun rebuilding your machine!
Rick

Ok, so now it is in a lot of pieces lol. I took a pic of the motor and I am not sure if it is rewinded or just another motor. Also ther were sparks coming out of the machine they told me, but so far I can not find anything wrong with it. its new color will be gold.
