Can anyohe tell me about this hose? It is marked Hoover and the smaller cuff says ULTRAFLEX Patented in Canada 1957. The larger cuff has two areas that say Press Here. It reminds me of the kind of connector used for many of the Electrolux hoses. Two clips that go up and down. The hose is super flexible and reminds me of an older Constellation hose.

Any help is appreciated.

Mark

Here is a close up of the machine end.

I'm going to venture a guess....

it may be a late series Aerodyne hose. I'm not at all sure about the Aerodynes in Canada, but I think the last of the US ones had Ultraflex hoses. Anyone else?

That's A Model 55 Canister Hose

The tail end of the "Aero-Dyne" style of cleaner. I am not sure that they referred to it as an Aero-Dyne, though. The Aero-Dynes had the dirt ejector system. This puppy came with paper bags. Somewhat like the Hoover Holiday.

Canada. . . Not sure of the model, but that definitely was like the 55 hose.

For Those Who Don't Know

I am a major fan of the Aero-Dyne.

Yes, Fred....

they were among my favorites, too. I had a 51 for a long time. Such classy machines. Those early ones with the dirt clicker were so cool. But, how was the suction with paper bags? Acceptable?

I'm not sure about the suction with the bags. Fred S. has one. Fred?

Of course,

Another reason I love the Aero-Dyne - Lucy!!! Here she is demonstrating the first one - the Model 50.

They Were More Powerful

Towards the end of the run. The 53 had multiple fans and was definitely more powerful than the 51.

I'm not sure about the suction with the bags. Fred S. ha

Really, the motor in all of the Aerodyne/Tank cleaners is verymuch the same. It's an early variation on the Constellation motor. Not sure about power consumption/wattage, etc. But the suction/airflow on those with the paper bags is just a bit less than those with the cloth bag--as the paper bag goes inside of a cloth bag.

I Do Know

compactelectra's profile picture
That the Model 53 was an improvement over the 51 Aero-Dyne. The 53 had two fans and the 51 only had one.

Nope...

They all had 2 fans.

I've rebuilt the motor on my 50, 51, and 53 and 42.

They didn't come apart quite like the motor on the Constellation from what I recall. But it's been a few years since I've had those apart..

Hmmm

This is going to be an interesting discussion. Nope. I have the Model 51 and 53 motor schematics and parts lists. Here's the Model 51 - I see one fan.

And The Model 53

(My favorite) - I see two fans.

Nope again.

See line item number 27, then find it on the picture.

There's a second fan encased in that housing.

When I serviced my models 50 and 51, I was able to get the housing apart, and take the fan out. It wasn't easy to do/took me a while to figure it out, but there is definitely a second fan in that motor.

Don't make me take one apart to show you. :-)

The difference is -- on the model 53, parts 28, 24 and 26 (the fan housing, fan, and deflector) are all separate parts. On the model 50 and 51, the same parts are all there, but they are pressed together with the fan in-between them - as an assembly.

Well dear

I stand corrected. But I swear, I have a 51 and a 53 and the 53 definitely seems more powerful. I'll just have to get out the meter and check it out.
