I usually post on the vintage forum, but since my latest addition is from (I think) the early 90's, I figured this was the place to go. The Sunday before last one of my printer friends stopped by the museum where I volunteer, and gave me an Electrolux Special Edition. It had belonged to his sister who went into assisted living. When the family was going through her things they were going to throw it out, and he told them he had a friend who collects vacuums and would take it for me.
Not being too familiar with the newer Luxes I got out my chart with pics of different models and when they were made. Although this model wasn't shown, the one that looked the most like it was the Diplomat, made in 1990 & 91. So at this point i'm assuming it was the lower priced model that sold at the same time as the Diplomat. It is beige and burgandy and has TREMENDOUS suction, but is quite loud compared to most Luxes I have known. Unfortunately, the only attachments that came with it were the hose, wands, and floor brush. This is my newest Lux, but at this point I'm not really sure if I want to keep it, trade it, or sell it, as I'm not really into the newer stuff that much, although it is a really nice machine.
Have taken a few pics, but since I'm still using a film camera will have to wait until the roll is finished before I can post them, and that may be a while, as these were the first pics on the roll.

What you have is just one of many cleaners of that same style. I'd guess you are close to being correct about the date, but I'm not sure. For anyone that feels the need to get a complete collection of these models you will need the Regency (light blue), Ambassador (various), Ambassador III (various), Limited Edition (tan), 2100 (new and old styles I believe), Ultra Lux (not to be confused with the metal model), Classic (current model), E2000 (tan, Canadian, metal PN4), and probably others. Some have the dial on top and others don't.

For those just interested in the Special Edition line, you should be on the lookout for the matching upright and shampooer.

Personally, I find that the Special Edition, Regency Series and some Ambassadors are the best colors. I also like the new style hoses, which I feel carries on the Lux tradition of attractive model specific hoses.
