About a week ago Ken decided to go out shopping with his sister and they went to a local thrift store. Ken "of course" went straight back to the vacuum section and found this beauty! There is a horror story to her as well. So he buys her for $8 and brings her home for a surprise for me. We both agreed that she needed to be serviced before we took pictures. I would have done it myself, but the hours at work just wont allow it. So anyways, we also decided that we wanted to get a replacement bag for the unit so the nice pretty gold one wouldn't get ruined. We take her to the store and tell the repair guy what we wanted and he said ok, it will be ready in a few days. So a few days go by and we call and they say that they still haven't got the new bag yet, So we decide that we want to go get the vacuum and just leave it the way it is, well here is the scary part. We get to the store and say we are ready to pick up our vacuum and just want to forget about the replacement. The repairman say, and I quote,"I don't know what good the vacuum would be without a bag." My eyes got huge. I said,"what!?" He turns to me with the most serious face," yah! I threw that bag in the trash!" I knew my face got red. I said why in the hell did you do that! We asked for a replacement and we want the old bag back! He told us that he was informed by the guy we had talked to that we only wanted a new bag, and didn't want the old one. I said no, I want the old bag. So in the end the guy had to go out in the dumpster and get the old one out. I will say that will be the last time I deal with that salesman. So here are the pictures!

Just curious to find out if my memory is still working. What model number does it say on the nameplate on the underside? Is it 2072?

Glad you saved the gold "brocade" bag from oblivion....enjoy using this excellent upright!

Missed it by two numbers, chief! (Said with the same voice as Maxwell Smart.....)

That would be a fun game to play at your conventions...."Guess the Model Number"!!!!!!!!

By the way, I had to look up the word "brocade" before using it in my message. I remember seeing the word used so many times in the past for upright bags. According to Random House, "brocade" means "fabric woven with a raised design".

That Eureka Rugulator does have an amazing bag design - can't believe the service guy actually threw it out!

All the repairman heard was "replace the bag" nothing more. So what do you do with the old bag? Throw it out! Nobody wants old things! This is the mentality that is destroying everyone's hobbies. I'm so glad you got the original back! I think my favorite thrift store here had a storewide sweep the other day, and dumpstered many things, nobody could have bought all that stuff in one day.

Good idea for a game!

That is a good idea for the model number! The one we play the most is guess this vacuum. We take youtube videos and have to figure out what kind of vacuum it is. It is actually really fun! As for the salesman, I personally think he was just stupid. I am glad the other sales guy was able to help us out.

Let this be a lesson. I'm not too surprised they threw away the old bag.

Anyway, these old bags are a cinch to replace. Two screws and presto. The replacement bags are allover ebay. Two choices are the white cloth bag with "Eureka" printed vertical and the Micron-Filtration grey-colored bag marked "Heavy-Duty".

Replacement bag

Yah I think next time I will just buy the bag myself. I know how to do it, I just didn't have the time.
