Made a daytrip to Sarnia to pick up a pair of vacuums awaiting me there. Naturally, stopped by a few places on my way. To begin with, because there's hiway construction just south of town I took the back way into St Marys. Still in stunned shock at what I found at their Sally Ann - so vibrating with happiness I'm leaving the surprise until last...

Suffice it to say the Twingle is in great working order. I know you are all somewhat weary of my almost supernatural magical luck in stumbling across fine vintage vacuums out here in rural West Bumf**k, Ontario, Canada but I think it must be because there are so many farmhouses and tiny towns and folks are passing away and scavengers or relatives just donate the stuff to clear the house out. My Gardian Angel seems to keep watch until I show up or compells me to GO LOOKING. I mean, who would want an old vacuum cleaner?

OK, one by one, here we go...

1949-51 Compact C-2 with Owner's Manual, the wands & a few tools, pulls 60" on original engine and has original hose ends bojacked to a lovely rubbery vinyl flexible green reinforced hose. The condition of the inner decal speaks for itself.

Had to take it apart because the motor had popped out of it's rubber mounting ring on start-up with covered inlet for vacuum test as the 3 bolts holding the halves together were loose.

Simple basic Compact and the magnesium shell is thinner and noticeably lighter weight than later Compacts.

See how clean it is inside?

Compact accesories, bags and green hose.

An Electrolux LX with topcaddy & tools including the elusive white dusting brush, wands, aftermarket runner wheels, another very flexible white reinforced vinyl hose, box full of old bags and a spare changeover floor/rug nozzle that perfectly matches my Model L, or the G in a squinty pinch.

Dirt Devil MVP looks good but the base was all cracked and split and the brushroll was gone. And after all, it's a cheesy dime-a-dozen Dirt Devil. :-)

But I took pity on this Kenmore Special Edition cause I like the color and it has a telescopic wand and it will make a great loaner or give'er vac.

It was only a day trip but Pete & I hung out shooting the breeze and the weather was iffy - sunny then cloudy then dark then sunny again. Could tell rainstorms were moving in overnight.

I was ready to go about 4:30 when Pete shouted out "Wait right here. I have something for you to take away. I've had my fun with it but really, I like uprights better."

You could have knocked me out with a featherduster!

The green Eureka 50th Anniversary Roto-Matic!!! This is the small bag model (I have the yellow big bag model) - about the same size as a Compact bag but the bag ring is slightly smaller and the Eureka paper bag mushrooms out inside the canister over the motor. Still, by trimming a Compact bag ring I can use them, too. Co-incidentally my in-town Vacman, Bill Ellison, gave me a 5-pack of original Eureka yellow logo-ed bags for this a few weeks ago when I showed him the picture of Pete's, now mine. People are just so gosh darn nice.

Gawd, this ommaculate apple green Roto-Matic is soooo gorgeous and has all three tools to fit the tool clips around the base. The crevicetool is fibre, btw. I'll have to look for a matching racketty Vibra-Beat carpet nozzle...mine are pale blue and turquoise.

The hose coupling will be faithfully restored to original look snas the tape and shrink-fit bojack collar asap.

Are ya done yet?

aeoliandave's profile picture
Not quite.

Saw this green/blue box at Petrolia. The place was closed so I took pictures and have begged Pete to please go get it for me, please.

And I'm sure it will still be there way out in back under a tarp...fingers crossed.

I'm practically speechless with delight and amazement this fell into my hands.

In St Marys at the Sally Anne. They know me there and when I walked in the lady said " Somthing came in last week but the cord is missing and we were going to toss it out but I saved it for you."

It pays to be nice to the Staff and mention your hobby as often as possible. :-)

The Canadian made Constellation model 821 in remarkable condition for it's age.

Had it apart at Petes. The cord has been detached and lost as well as the top rubber mounting ring donut for the motor. Nolo Problemo...

So clean! that's not rust, it's dirt.

Still has the sprung filter band. Sadly the top has sustained a minor dent that detached the riveted hose coupler ring but we fix, you betcha...
Jeez, still has the ball chain lid restraint!

And yes, that is the original blue full length UltraFlex hose. Dang!

The full monty.

sad dent on top and trim ring to bump out but the handle is intact. No other scatches or dings that I can see. I will be channeling Crevicetool Rick when I get this on the Spa Bench, don'tcha know.

Matching floor tool, upholstery nozzle and two wands with the blue rubber on the locking latches.

Deliriously dumbfounded Davypoo.

'Cause I just about crapped my drawers today, as you can imagine.

Oh, and I mowed the Lawn before the rain when I got home. LOVE self-propelled Power Drive!!!

Y'all know I have a special pl;ace in my collector's heart for cast-off abandoned battery powered toys, right?

Did we learn nothing from Toy Story?

Found this Thinkway Toys interactive WOODY doll today at the Goodwill for $0.99. Batteries were weak but he was able to croak out a few dying phrases from his tummy button. Had a long string hanging out the back and I figured he probably had to have some sort of spring reel inside that was busted.

This calls for an exploratory Woody-ectomy.

As suspected, there is a cord reel and it has two momentary contacts as it re-winds. the clear plastic drum was in pieces so I crazyglued it back solid, loaded the spring and threaded the cord through the hole with a stop-knowe tied in it. The cord has to pass through woody's shirt and vest before the finger ring gets tied on.

The pull string cord opens up a whole new circuit and adds an addition 10 phrases to the 5 belly button ones. In addition, Woody's belt buckle has infrared sensors for interaction with other ThinkWay Toys, such as Monsters Inc. Sully and Mike. :-)

Felix Approved.

Goodwill got its records off the Floor and into a bin for easy browsing. Picked up an 10 LP Readers Digest Boxed Set - all original recordings! Readers Digest always did really great collections like this and the quality is very good. I'll eventually record it all to hard drive and compose some boss CDs and MP3s.

I just had to buy these next two albums just for the cover art.

She's got the fireplace romantically lit, her best strapless gown on, her hair gloriously puffed and the Martinis are chilling ... and she just hung up the phone. Note tear rolling down her cheek.

Jackie Gleason isn't actually on the LP, he's just presenting these hope-springs-eternal soppy selections awaiting our disappointed, dejected and despondent Damsel so unlucky in love.

This is by far the BEST!

Mom and Pop so very proud of their blondelishious eminently marriageable daughter while ignoring, or resigned to, young Buddyboy's extraordinarily rapturous transport, hands clasped in appreciative sensitivity...

I think the lad's name is Davy. I even had those same clothes and would spend hours down the basement next to the hi-fi singing along with Giselle MacKenzie and Patsy Cline...

Love the toy pictures, Felix looks satisfied with the new acquisition for sure.

Jackie Gleason records are the staple of many thrift store vinyl sections, as well as the Reader's Digest boxed sets, and Mercury High Fidelity albums. Our Goodwill in Fort Pierce combines sane, customer level record/magazine rack, and infuriating wall art/record albums above eye level, in the same store. Our "rich section" Goodwill has all their record albums in above eye level rackage, with wall art underneath.

The more I looked at the Compact C2 the more I realized that the gold and pale blue of the decal was mostly intact, it was the black lettering that had chipped off. Drawing inspiration from the manual and the faint traces of black left I bit the bullet and painted it in with black nail polish enamel. Next I'll touch up and refine the gold with a gold Sharpie. The drip spot stain down the sides is proving problematic but I'm sure a solution will come to me. It reminds me of how nicotine glaze runs under high humidity.

I know these are not the correct nozzles but the wands are a simple friction fit with no button catch, which would be correct.

Swapped handle ends on hoses for an more age-appropriate cloth weave look.

The green hose looks very nice with the apple green C-8.

It's amazing what a perfect color match this is for the C8. I was just guessing but once magic erasered the color came through and of course, a second 'warthog' Skylon tower filter stands proudly out back. :-)
