Looked up the Royal Appliance(TTI floorcare) website-they still list a "pile Lifter" brushroll as an option for the commercial small nozzle Royal metal uprights.I too wonder how this would work. With the Kirbys-wouldn't the carpet fluffer brushroll act kinda like a pile lifter?I would venture to figure if you want REAL pile lift action you would need to get one of those Nilodor Pile lifter machines as shown in my link.It would seem you would need to use the very large drum brushroll turned by the high torque motor as shown in the pile lifter machine. It has a Royal metal upright motor and fancase for the suction system.Note the bag feed horn is the same as for Royal "B" bags.
Also I have a question for Kirbys-I am a Kirby fan--but why on a premium vacuum as that-they don't have a METAL brushroll with replaceable strips-these could have the stiffeners.Same as with Royal metal uprights.

Kirby

HI All The kirby has a pile lifter it is the carpet fluffer i use it on my thick rugs once a week it does a very good job. i use it on my Heritage2. When you lower the brush you BETTER hold on to the handle or else it will take off. try it you will like it. Take care Doug

One of those "Certified" pile lifter machines is one of the "Dream" vacuums I have been looking for.also a NSS "Bronco" wet-dry ext filter vacuum.Remember seeing both of these in a Daycon Janitorial supply place years ago(Janitorial supplier in Was h DC area)Those two machines just looked co cool and beautiful! The HUGE blue bags on both machines-the polished housings and polished SS drum on the NSS machine.Someday I will run into these machines.I have been asking at the used tool places(ReTool)and janitorial suppliers.Sometimes they say these turn up.Whenever I have asked they say the ones they get are badly worn out.Motors burned out-drums and housings corroded out.Yes I have used the Kirby fluffer-but wonder if the Certified machine would do a better job.The Certified's machine brushroll is designed to reach all the way to the BACKING of the carpet.Don't think the Kirby brush can do that. And since the housing the Kirby roll isn't totally enclosed as on the Certified-don't think you benefit from the Kirbys full air movement power to vacuum away what the drum like Fuffer brushroll brings up.Maybe someday if I could work huge amounts of OT-maybe will look into the Certified machine. One came into Bills Vac Hospital a while back-was an interesting machine to try-was like using a lawnmower. You don't pull these beasts back as a regular vacuum-You have to vacuum the floor with it the opposite direction to lift both sides of the carpet pile.

thats a good idea never thought to look in used tool places..
i dont see anything really doing anywhere near as good a job as the lifter...i mean thats all it was made 4'' id think. id love to try one...but never had chance. i found my kirby pile lifter....but when i mount the housing its not activating the safety switch....so it wont turn on'''what am i missing? i have a hrtg 2...and assume its the correct housing cause it fits good...got me. youve also got me thinking...i could take a couple motors and replace the old ones from a worn out pile lifter...patch the drum..ect. did he give a price for these junked units....even a patched up lifter can do a great job. one man trash is anothers treasure..

Don't remember what they gave on the scrap machines-They were Broncos-both had corroded out drums and burnt up motors.Sad.If the drum is corroded and worn-the machine is useless even if you had a working motor and bag.Bronco motors are no longer made-BAD NSS!!!Please bring back this machine.Right now I have a Tornado "Task Force"Not to be confused with Lowes Task Force-that Tornado vacuum came from Graingers. It has a plastic 15 gal drum. The used places didn't run into any used pile lifters.Still lookn'Guess these are hard to find on the used market. The one I saw at Daycon had a diffrent suction motor-much bigger and tougher looking than the Royal motor now used. Its simply the motor from a Royal metal upright.A couple times ReTool out here had used vacuums-seen three there over the years-all pretty beat up-a Lux,Rainbow and a Sanitaire. And some VERY beat up Craftsman and Shop Vac wet-dry vacuums. But I still keep looking-sometimes even find power tools for my tool collection-collect those too.Looking for REALLY old Skil 77 type worm drive saws.Ran into one at a tool repair place but the housing was so busted up from being dropped-it couldn't be repaired.the older housings are NLA.Power hand tools such as drills, circular saws, and jig saws became popular just after WW2-Skilsaws were common even before that.

ummm stupid question...what is and where is the drum? TORNADO makes some great stuff...or taconi isnt it? i couldnt begin to imagine what a trade in vac from a tool shop looks like...bet that thing is beat to death.or worn out.
anybody have a pic of the HRTG2 with the carpet groomer head on...so i can see what im missing /whats supposed to activate switch. so i know what to dig for....please.please.

The "drum" or tank part of a wet-dry vacuum that holds the dirt or water you are picking up.The motor and filter is in the lid of the machine. In most wet-dry machines the hose connects to the tank-usually near the top so it can hold more liquid. In some older wet-dry vacs the hose connected to the lid.The Tornado co is now owned by Taconoy.Really like my ext filter wet-dry vacuum. It is very powerful.-and doesn't clog as easily as internal filter vacuums.

so i wonder why the kirby houseing doesnt cover the fluffer all the way...would it not work better covered ...ive never used it b4 so i have no clue about it...but id like to use it.

The Fluffer brush fits in the housing in only one way-the ends are dissimilar-You have to match them so the brush fits into its housing.Try fitting the brush into the housing by flipping it over end-to end.

i meant that the housing isnt fully enclosed...the roller has a screw for each end..that gets screwed into thru the housing.
