So, I have this Tool-Pak 'piggyback' caddy that has 4 nozzle positions and a crevicetool slot. The only identifyer on it is the name Tool-Pak.

I'm hoping the shape of the caddy will ring a bell with someone. I've been through all my possible canisters and it just doesn't come close to fitting on any of the lids.

Even now I can imagine someone is saying "Oh yeah, that came off a 19XX ******* vacuum."

It is obviously molded to snugly fit the contours of a canister and be stabilzed by fitting over a half-round perimeter bumper strip that may very weel enclose a lid hinge. But it also has all the earmarks of being a removable, perhaps optional extra, tool caddy.

From the underside you can see what could be a finger hole at the tapered end to carry it by, or the hole fits around some sort of knob.Besides 'clipping' over a bumper strip/hinge the only other attachment point is this curiously shaped protruding prong which is an fact a removable rubber item that inserts in only one tool shape and in only one orientation due to a single side slot and matching keyway. See next picture...

Although it does seem to be easily removable as a portable caddy (who would need that function since it rides on the canister lid anyway? LOL) with tools on it it certainly won't stand upright on end. :-)

I suppose I could carry it around in the car for the rest of my life looking for the vacuum it fits but surely someone will be able to say it belongs on such & such model of 'Vacuum' made in 19XX...

Dave, ready, willing and able to smack forehead at that Eureka moment. Thanks Fred.

I agree with fred. the Iron sides canisters have this as well as the vactronic and the little 3.0 triangular eureka canisters. the tipoff for guessing this is the Crevice tool holder. it slides through the middle.

Eureka was the only manufacturer to call their tool caddies, "Tool Pak"s. When I first saw the picture, I immediately thought that the hole at the front end seems rather unusual - never ever saw that on any Eureka canister. But then I remember seeing something on Doug's great website, and voila! Eureka! I found it! (Couldn't help myself Dave - the situation begged for it).

Go to the link below and scroll down to the Eaton Viking canned ham canister vac, made by Eureka. There is your tool-pak! Here is the description -

Viking - Cordaway

Model: V1824B

120 V AC 6.5 A

Year: 1972-1974

Price: $99.95

Made in USA by Eureka

It's really weird. This caddy sits right on top of the suction selector dial, and I think the hole at the end of the Tool Pak alows the user to see what setting the dial is at! or maybe it allows the user to lift the caddy just a few inches to see where the dial is set. In any case - not the best place to put an upholstery nozzle. Would love to see the instruction manual for this Viking 1824B - that would explain how the %&^$^$ you were supposed to use the dial with the Tool Pak sitting right on top of it.

Eureka is the Winner !!

Yes, Dave
It is for a Eureka Cannister of the 60/70's cica. It looks like one that was designed to hold the top of the line Rubber
tools. So it could very well be a "canned Ham" Eureka or one
that was branded for JCPenney, Mont. Wards, Wizzard for Western Auto or one your canadian Tire stores that sold vacuums at one time.
Yes, it is an older one, due to the hanger slot that you descovered !! Newer were built as part of the machine, as the
elder tool caddies would fall off the machines as they aged!
You asked why they would make it removeable? They would show
in the instructions that it would hang on coat hook, with the hose draped over it. Much like Air Way attachment boards and
carriers of the day. As well as Kirby attachment boxes and the commander Series from Sears had a long box with cloth straps on it.

Fantastic Brian. I was going to go sleuth Doug's site myself but got caught up with dinner and real phone chatting with Pete, etc etc. What an invaluable site Doug's and others like it are!

Maybe it is meant to be fitted to the vacuum by a Serviceman - the suction lever is probably removable and then the hole would fit over the shaft and the indicator lever put on over that? Won't know for sure until I have a ham to try it on...

I better hang on to this caddy then. It looks as tho it might fit the Eureka Ham I saw the other day at Ellison's vac Shop but in any case, I really think I need to get a 'ham' canister of any badge soon. LOL

He's got the real scoop behind the round hole in the Tool Pak - and it makes sense to me.

Still don't understand how the thing stays put on the canister though. And still can't figure out how you were supposed to set the dial with the caddy blocking the setting labels. We need an instruction manual for this unit! (Anyone?)
