I have three machines that have problems and I don't really love them and I am running out of space in my small apartment. I've had them all since I was 19 and I'm just sick of looking at sick machines! The problem is that my passion for vacuums will never be quenched and I will always want to get new vacuums. So I need to make room for them. I am going to name the vacuums and the problem that they have and I'd really like it if some of you would give me some advice if you think I should fix them or throw them away to make room for machines that I like more. I'm not even sure it if it would be worth the trouble to sell them on Ebay or if anyone would even want them.

The first one is a blue Whrilpool made Kenmore canister with woodgrain top. The power nozzle neck is broken and I've taken it apart to try to fix it and can't even find all the pieces now. I know I could still use it as a straight suction machine (has all the attachments), but to me if the power nozzle doesn't work, the machine is incomplete and I just can't use it. I don't even want to look at it anymore!

The next is a Rainbow D2. It was given to me a 6 years ago and it's got a couple problems The first is that it has the wrong power nozzle cord. The cord is too long and does not even fit the socket on the machine. It still works, but falls out. The last time I tried to run it about a year ago, it made an awful sound and smoke came pouring out. I'd actually like to get rid it and my SE Series and just get an E Series instead. I think they are still pretty common, so this would be safe to junk as well no?

The next is an Electrolux upright. It's not the kind with the L shaped power nozzle (I'd prefer that kind), it's the older boxy square kind. It's the kind with the push button handle release. I've never liked it... it's loud and heavy and doesn't seem to clean well. The back wheel is cracked in half and part of it missing and the hose under the machine is loose. (moving is very tough on vacuums)

So, are any of these things I should consider keeping and fixing, or are they common enough to replace if I every decide I want one again?

Thanks!

I know your problem

Hi what I do to support my collection of vacuums is strip down the machines you dont want anymore and sell the parts on Ebay. The parts are quite profitable and you can use this income to purchase more machines that interest you. A good rainbow is worth about $150 - $300 in parts, the same is true for kirbys and electrolux's.

Vacuums that you don't want!

I think Richard's idea of how to dispose of unwanted vacuums is an excellent idea..For those of us that have extra vacuums that we can't sell or giveaway to fellow club members you can take them apart and offer them on Ebay or here to be sold. It's a way of making extra cash and helping others find parts that they have been looking for a long time that are no longer available from the manufacturers.I know Richard has helped me find some parts I couldn't get elsewhere. I have a few machines myself that I am going to put on here, I would much rather see a fellow collector get some use out of them instead of just throwing them away.(It just about kills me to see a vacuum in the trash.) I wish I would have known some fellow collectors in California when I left there to give the 300 machines too that I just had to walk away and leave behind when I moved back to Wyoming. I still am looking for some parts to replace some of the attachments that got left behind. Thats where this idea of sharing or selling cheap to a fellow collector will come in handy and most appreciated.....

Rick and Dan have it right, I would try and E-bay or even Craigslist for the Rainbow's, then if they don't sell I would part them out.
Id buy 2 of your vacs if the price is right ;~).
Are you close to I 50? I may be going down with my Mom to do some paperwork for my uncle.Mabe I could save on shipping if I picked them up lol.

I've never heard of Interstate 50. Did you mean highway 50, Kenny? If you're coming to FL we've gotta get together and play/talk vacuums (if you are then I'll wait to send the power nozzle... I've been a lazy bones and still haven't it, though It's all boxed up.... and by the front door.... guess I'm getting closer each week!).
