Well, I just finished my first test week, comparing the VGI and VGII brushrolls. I'm using them in an Air Storm with a Tristar Nozzle setup. With each brushroll, the brush strips are almost brand new. This past week, I vacuumed with the VGII. Throughout the week, it never "felt" as aggressive as the VGI that I normally use. However, this evening when I opened the dust bag, I was surprised to find it almost completely full (of dog hair)after only one week of vacuuming. The Air Storm does have more powerful motor than my Tristar CXL, so I don't know if that has had some effect. It may be that the VGII is more agressive too. And of course, our dogs may be shedding more this week! I wish I had a more scientific way of measuring results.

thanks for the info..
i too would think the vg1 would be an agressive deep cleaner...more than the vg2. but some swear by the vg2 and its beater bars.
my 684sc has the vg2..so ive yet to buy or run across a vg1 at a decent price so i can test.hate to buy and find out what i had was better.but the vg2 thats on my 684 does a great job..better than my kirby htg2 at deep cleaning...but thats my view...and what i saw... we did a month long test not 2 long ago on this forum so some different methods or ideas may give you some ideas....but it seems at the moment your doing great and gave us some valueable info...

I would like to replace the brush strips in my Eureka Express power nozzle that has a VG3 in it. Any idea where I can find replacement strips? I looked online but was unable to find any.

Thanks!

My brush strips are black. The dont apear to be worn but I'm almost certain they are the original ones that came with the machine when my mom bought it back in '86. Should they just be replaced anyway?

Thanks!

wouldnt hurt..esp if they been on that long. the black and orange strips are outthere...a vac shop should carry those by the bag full...im a cash and carry guy, only order if i gotta or ebay if i def gotta have...most online parts dealers carry them...you may want to refine your search....try the vac and then parts on site for it..hope this helps but im the worst on a computer...just basics to get me by

Unscientific Findings

Well, below are the findings of my unscientific test. In this test, I would say the VGII won. It's difficult to tell from the photo, but the VGII picked up more hair, dirt, and grit. I used both brush rolls in identical Tristar design (Eureka built) power nozzles attached to my Air Storm vacuum cleaner. The Air Storm is similar in design to the Tristar but comes with a more powerful motor. I vacuumed with each over the course of one week. I can't say that conditions for each week were equal because dogs and kids are in and out of the house constantly this summer, though I did vacuum with each cleaner on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

Fine Dirt

I think they both got about the same amount of sand. However, the VGII seemed to get much more fine dirt. There was quite a bit of fine dirt stuck to the walls of the bag from the VGII that wouldn't come out. Also, more dog hair seemed to bind to it and wouldn't come out. So there was more debris left in the VGII bag that didn't show up in the photo.
