Hey guys. I actually grew up with a Singer System (Ryobi made)... the kind Eric did his test with a few weeks ago. I thought it would be fun to have one again just because I had one as a child... and it IS a vacuum with a soft back mounted ballooning bag. I also like the handle being the power switch as it's a pretty unique feature. Plus the big headlight is really cool. What belt will fit these machines so I know what to get when I do buy it?

There was a two speed model on Ebay that I almost bid on, but decided not to. We didn't have a two speed model growing up and I want the same one we had. Does the low speed really make it much quieter?

How rare are these machines now? Am I silly for not having gotten the one in that auction? It didn't seem to be in great shape either... I figured for the price plus shipping, I might see on at the good will some day for half that.

Anyone have any literature on the 80's Singers? I know they made a red and black model with a large two speed rocker switch and they also had a model with a fold down handle if I remember correctly. I'd love to see pics of some of them if anyone has any.

Thanks! Here's a link to the auction for the vacuum I decided not to get. Maybe one of you want it instead! No bids yet and it ends in 3 hours!

I think a few vacuum stores may still have them hanging around.
Sears may even have them as they sold thier Kenmore version.
I threw one of those away about 2 years ago because the plate had a piece missing and it would snag the carpet,I wish I hadn't tho. I didnt even think to look at sears.com for a new one.
As for bags/belts Sears has them or you can use F&G bags.

Bob Id go for it but to a limit if its not EXACTLY what you want just to hold you over lol. The lo speed does cut dont very little on soundbut not much on suction.

Since the Singer Belts are NLA, I was told when I enquired about a belt for my Twin Fan Kenmore to use a Hoover Elite belt

Speaking of Belts !

I know before I start that I am behind the times.
I happen to have a phone call from a friend. whom I
don't see very often any more. Any way, she said she
needed a belt for her vacuum and could I help her out.
Being that she is at 15 years my senior I said Sure.
I get to her home, had totally forgotten that she has
a Blue, Eureka, 5060 self propelled upright. That I had
sold to her in the 1980's. The machine is in great shape
and yes the belt had actually broken and fell out. So who
knows how long it has been on there. Maybe since 1995 or
the year 2000. So brought the maching home, cleaned it up, put in a new
headlight changed the bag and realized. I have no Eureka
Round belts that fit all the Eureka uprights back in the
day. I went downtown yesterday, to stop at my supply vac
shop (almost 30 years of business with them) "Closed for
the Holiday" OK, Shame on Me !!!
I went to target, Wallgreens, CVS,Kroger Market store, Giant
Eagle. NO one carries that belt. ONly for current models
which are all flat belts, not round. They all carry very
few paper bags now. Again almost all of the current machines
are (uprights anyway) bagless. Didn't See any Dyson belts
at target or Kroger Market and they sell Dyson.
What has this world come to ? ? LOL !

Wal-mart has the round belts (as do some grocery stores), but I can't find F and G bags!

Sam, thanks. I had also heard that about Elite belts as well... looks like that will be my only option!

Aren't the Elite belts a hair bigger making them slip a little? I seem to recall using it but noticing it slipped some.

It is terrible too, the way there making parts harder to find, and these companies discontinueing thing so people are forced to buy something new over a 2.00 part.
