Does anyone know what the first home carpet extractor was?

I am not for positive

Do you mean the first one that was desigend to be used by the homeowner, such as a rental. Or the first one marketed and sold for home use?

The first rentals, at least in my area was the gigantic thermax type machines. Then later the Rug Doctor.

Home type, I believe was a Bissell, again I could be wrong; but I remember the old type that you hooked to the fawcett and pulled the machine along behind you. They had a big honking machine prior to the self-contained unit which I think the Big Green was their first self-contained.

I am open for correction.

Sold for home use

I still think the first dedicated extractor was a Bissell.

I also think it was Bissell, and it seems like quickly after Kenmore had the Power Spray.

Somewhere I saw an ad for a rug renovator unit by Hamilton Beach from the 1920's that encouraged housewives to make money by cleaning their neighbor's carpets. On what principle it worked I am not sure, as I have never seen one.

Did Regina make the first upright steam cleaner? And what year did the regina steamer carpet cleaner come out?

Maybe Hoover created the 1st upright extractor? Hoover came out with the Floor Washer, then the Floor-A-Matic (FAM) & finally the Steam Vac

I was also going to say the Regina upright.... I think the Bissell Big Green was the first really popular one (though they had some white and gray oval shaped ones taht preceded the Big Green).

In our area the Kenmore Power Spray was very popular in the mid 80's, and some people had the Bissell, which was the predecessor to the Big Green. I remember the Reginas at K-Mart but dont think they sold well here, but when Hoover introduced the Steam Vac and Steam Vac Spin Scrub every one upgraded to those.

Before the Regina upright Steemer, the 1st actually to purchase for home use was the Regina System III, which was a canister with a power nozzle,in fact the same PN which was on some of their Electrik Brooms and also served as a huge extractor that looked suspiciously like a Rinse-n-Vac. This was the early 80s.

I have a few ads from Sears from around 1978 and I think they have the Kenmore power sprayer. I will try and look it up. The Regina upright was early 80's I think.

Bissell Oval Machine

HI guys I will have to get it out and take pics but I have a complete Oval self contained Bissell I bought from a friend back in 2002 or 2003 that he bought new at Macy's around 89 or 90. Great machine but my ProHeat is easier on the back. I've got the book too filed away in a file cabinet. I have the wall rack for the attachments but with the exception of the wands you can back the hose and all attachments in to buckets and have it stored as one handy package.
