How else does an alien emissary of peace keep his interstellar saucer all shiny?

But I'm getting ahead of the story....

First off, the new windshield wipers I had installed when I last had my windows treated with Aquapel began to chatter something awful during the rain the past 3 days. They are the kind that have the rubber strip bonded to a single flat steel band, rather than the usual multi-link support arms. It became obvious that the makers of these new blade have a problem on their hands with all the 'recommendations' they provide to fix the chatter. Such as "run the wipers only with washer fluid on the window! So anyway, the Glass Shop gave me a pair of new old-fashioned blades and suggested I try the new blades come this winter. Huge apologies. I am a 10 year customer and like the Aquapel treatment very much. Better than the stuff you apply yourself, it causes any water to bead up real tiny and run off like lemmings to the sea and lasts 6 months. I have all windows and the sunroof treated twice a year.

I then popped in to the Sally Ann right next door. As I entered a nice couple my age were coming to the register with a beautiful TriStar CXL in silver mottle with the PN, hose and all the tools. For $15!

Naturally I exclaimed something like "Arghhh, missed it by minutes". Conversation about vacuum cleaners ensued. The fellow and his wife run a business cleaning office and factory buildings in the area. They favour heavy duty vacuums - uprights and canisters - kept on site for this and so keep on the lookout for robust suitable vacuums.

Well, this CXL also had one of those Warthog/Skylon Tower afterfilters hanging off the back. I explained how this was the wrong filter for this machine and what he needed was the samller screw-on type. He agreed that the warthog would be easily broken off if it contacted any vertical surface as they cleaned around desks and such and looked stupid as well as vulnerable canted off the back of the Tristar. I knew I had a spare small one and asked if we could finagle an exchange. They lived on a quiet street and after a fast trip home and cellphone exchanges, 30 minutes later the trade took place.

Here's the pristine, never been used looks like clean as a whistle and not a single scratch TriStar with the tag still on it!

Then he say's I have a few vacuums here that aren't any good for us - if you want any take 'em away....I swear my eyes bugged out of me head.

A Kirby G4 that needs only a cord and a Ghibli Vortech Force with both hoses and all the tools.

He mentioned that he has a much older Kirby in Mitchell at a warehouse and will bring that back to Stratford next time, as the dusting brush for the Force is there, too.

His wife uses a Filter Queen Majestic the past 4 years as her home daily driver...and there is was in a closet off the livingroom.

These folks know their vacuums and carpet cleaners. The garage is chock-a-block with industrial grade machines. Dave and Marlene Marelow - Swiss Family Cleaning Services.

They thought I was a hoot with all my vacuums and vacuum knowledge. I took over the Reference Binder and we spent a good half hour debating the merits of this machine and that.

Yeah, another source for abandoned vacuums, as they frequently get called in to clean out old houses and will keep their eyes peeled now they know the sort of vintage I like.

And now...Gort's Floor Polisher...

As I'm leaving the garage I noticed something tucked in a back corner and asked about it. "Take it if ya want it", says my new buddy Dave M.

This thing is huge and heavy, at least twice the size of a regular domestic floor buffer but in the same pleasing proportionate streamline form. Major serious 9" bristle brushes and snap on buffer pads.

A REGINA Model A made by Onward Manufacturing on Kitchener.

I had rented the new Keanu Reeves 'Day The Earth Stood Still' dvd the night before and so clearly this monster buffer is for Gort to keep Klaatu's saucer looking spiffy inside and out.

A mere mortal's - or a cat's - view.

And that's how it happens, folks. Network, network, network.

I'll just add here that the Vortech Force electric hose is 9.5 feet long and the non-electric one is 9 feet. Shades of Royal Classic Pony...Holy Honkin' Hose, VacMan!

The Force telescopic wand is the nicest and most practical new one I've seen and used - it extends from 23" out to 43". Nice Wand, VacSidekick!.
