I saw the new Electrolux today. It's white with silver trim.
It hit me with mixed reviews. Here is the good stuff:
(1) 40% more powerful motor
(2) brushless motor
(3) enclosed hepa filter
(4) improved start/stop switch
(5) tools store on hose end
(6) new design of floor brush (shaped more like the floor brush on the early XXX's
(7) lower price about $1600 verses $2100 for Guardian
(8) repairable motor
(9) new design of hose handle
(10) nice Silver and white color
(11) built in lights for full bag, power on,no bag in cleaner
(12) ligher weight 11 pounds vs 17 for Guardian
BUT-ON THE DOWN SIDE:
(1) no more 3 speed motor control
(2) no more automatic control that can be adjusted
(3) shorter power cord and return to older style window shade cord return
(4) smaller bag-like the original Electrolux style bag
(5) no more flip-over rug/floor tool
(6) canister guarenteed for 20 years and not 25 years
In summary I think they have tried to make a durable, simplified machine that is lightweight. Very nice looking color combo when you see it in person

Can't wait to see it. I've got a few questions though.

1) Is this a evolution of the Guardian or is this an all new design?

2) Is the new bag a actual type c bag, or an all new bag?

3) Any power nozzle changes?

4) Any effects on other models?

Speaking of price, I thought the guardian was $1500, and anything over that was against company policy.

Made in?

Where are they being made? The U. S.? China? Mexico?

New Electrolux Model

See if I can answer some questions:
(1) looks just like a 2100 with sleeker rounded top
(2) don't know where they are manufactured
(3) bag looks just like regular Lux bag
(4) there will be no more of the Epic/Guardian style
(5) they will still make the less expensive Lux Classic
and the upright
(6) I am sure I paid over $1100.00 for my Epic 8000 way back in 1998.
(7) no change in power nozzle but the hose handle is new style with off/on and different suction relief opening.
(8) change in the tubes. Guardian Tools will not fit the new machine.
(9) I think they made a smart move to reduce the price when you look at what they are asking for a new Kirby,Rainbow,Tristar or Filter Queen. Look at it this way- I got a $500.00 Dyson and several new Hoover's this year that are very poor construction and you know won't be around in 20 years.
Hope this answers some questions. It is better looking in person than in a picture. It seems very powerful at the hose end.

I was selling them for about $1,699.99 for Guardian and 799.99 for the floor pro, 1,500.00 for the TOL upright, and 499.99 for the classic. This was in 2003

New Electrolux Model

Is the new model coming out like the old metal vacs like a super J or Silverado??? If they are I would buy one in a heartbeat.. I love my old style tanks (Metal Ultralux- I was told they were the last metal ones to be made)Then they came out with the Rennasance- Well Martha Stewart had one so I had to have one... After I bought it I was very disappointed... It was big and bulky and hard to use. But I did like the fact it had a three speed motor. Oh well the Rennasance sits in the closet hardly ever used but I use the Ultralux a lot....

new electrolux

Dan,
I don't think they are going to go back to the metal. I have never see a problem with the lighter weight plastic tanks although I am with you and prefer the old metal machines.
The machine I saw looked just like the shape of the 2100. I love all the deluxe features of my 8000 but it is much heavier and a little more bulk in use.
Interesting fact about Martha Stewart using an Electrolux.

Martha/electrolux !

Yes, I have seen Martha using electrolux several times over the years. I have always imagined being her salesman and
her saying,"Oh a new model, I'll 5/6 of them for each of
my homes" (or at least 2 lux one up and down in three of her
homes) Like I sold Mrs. Loraine Thomas one Christmas for
her 3 girls (yes, one was Wendy) a Hoover Concept Power
drive plus 2 for up and down in she and Dave's home. OH,
she forget, and ordered one more for the floridia home, too.
For a total of Six. Blew my Vac Shop Sales out of the
the water for the next Dec. Could not match that week!! LOL.

I'm sorry that they are doing away with the rug floor flip tool. I never use the automatic control on my diamond jubilee anyway so I don't care about that. I'd love to see a picture of it... I checked Aerusonline.com but didn't see one. Anyone know where it can be found?

Hi,

I spoke with the repair person I usually buy from. They are taking orders for the new machines. I asked what the new model was called. Guardian Ultra. He will have brochures in a few days.

Hey Joe

They have no choice but to use the Aerus name. They are no longer Electrolux and, from what I have read, no longer have any rights to the name Electrolux at all as of the end of this year. The rights to the name were sold back to Electrolux Sweden in order to pay for Tri-Star / Compacts purchase of the company in 2000.

So does that mean they will be dropping the "Lux" name as well? I really hate what Eureka is doing to the Electrolux name at big box retailers.

I think the LUX name is just their way of trying to get around the legalities. They know they made a big mistake marketing wise getting rid of the name and have done everything possible to try to hang on to it. I wish they had put as much effort into hanging on to the quality of the machines. Having worked for Electrolux through the late 80's and 90's as a service manager (among other things) I can say that, while the new machines have got more power it was done by sacrificing the quality of the product. You will never see one of these new machines still running in 50 years or more like the old ones. As far as the European Electroluxes now in stores they are good in their own way but have alot of drawbacks that the older european ones didnt have too.

More info

pr-21's profile picture
Ok here are the specs

electrical rating 10 amps at 120 volts
air watts (motor) 439
CFM 145
Canister weight 11.9 lbs
Power Nozzle weight 4.6 lbs
canister dimensions 24"l x 9"w x 8.5"h
power nozzell dimensions 3.5"h x 15"w x 8"deep
cord length 20 ft
filter bag capacity 2.5 us qts Type c bag
20 year limited warranty

I only have the brochure with no way to scan it in. I should get mine this Friday.

Things I picked up as I read the brochure

Power Nozzle now has an overheat shutoff.
The Aerus symbol lights up when plugged in to show its ready.
The buttons have been redone on the wands, but they look the same to me otherwise, except for color. I was hoping for smaller...
As mentioned before bag change indicator, no bag, thermal protection indicators.

Standard accessories include, Sidekick, Floor tool, Combo tool, Crevice tool, Accessory Caddy (fits on wands), True sealed hepa filtration, and adapter to use with floor tool or combo tool. Hose connects just like the SR6500 (line up the arrows).

Hope this helps people who are curious like me.

One more thing, the Guardian Ultra Brochure does still use the name LUX. Lux Guardian Ultra is the actual name on the brochure.

I'm very glad to see the Type C bag returning to the high end model, and being the standard bag across the canister model line. Its so cool that a bag design that has been in use for 57 years will once again reign supreme.

New Luxe Pics

The Electrolux Dealer is only a few minutes from my house and in the shopping center next to my job. So I decided to snap a pic through the window tonight since I kno everyone is anxious to see it. Sorry for the poor quality but I used my Blackberry and even with the flash it didnt come out that great.

Hose Handle

bimmer740's profile picture
The handle looks to be a bit smaller and not as clunky as the original style, as are the wands. Tools are now stored on the wand which is a nice idea but I dont think its the most practical, I can see them getting in the way or bumping into something and falling off. Overall it looks nice but certainly not the beauty that the original Renaissance or Guardian were. Im sure it will be close in weight to the Epic 6500 which is a huge plus!

Guardian Ultra Hand Grip

The hand grip on this new model is not like the Epic6500/7000/legacy series canisters. It's basically a Tristar clone.

Thanks for the pictures.

I'm disappointed! Really, this cleaner is just a E2000 decendent, with some upgrades. The general design is 25 years old. I believe this is the first time in Lux history that a revised low end model has replaced a high tech high end model.

From what I can see we have:

An Ambassador / 2100 / Classic etc. combined with

A HEPA filter
A Epic 6500 / 7000 / Legacy hose with revised handle
A tool clip
A new motor
Some new plastic trim

So, to sum up my feelings very quickly...

I'm disappointed because:
Its nothing radically new.
It has features removed (speed control).
Tool carrier looks flimsy, and they could have used the top mount clip like they always have.
Price is too high for a remake of a 25 year old design. I can't think of a manufacturer that has done this recently.

On the bright side:
The combo duster lives on after 55 years.
The type C bag is back on the high end model, 57 years after its original introduction on the LX.
You can use it with the old style hose / wand set up that dates back to the 70s.
They probably could have done worse, and didn't.

Just my thoughts.

THANK YOU for the pics, but i am disappointed. maybe now i can get a blue guardian at a more reasonable price.

wonder will there still be 3 canisters, or back to just 2, high end and low end ?

New Electrolux

Here is the picture I have of the new Lux. I guess you guys are having the same reasponse that I posted at the start of this thread. It does have a lot of power and air-flow. It looks very nice in person and I am sure most customers will appreciate the lighter weight.
It is a proven design and with the economy right now it may be a good move. Glad to see the Lux still around. I am tired of all the "new" BAGLESS machines that have filters that clog.

Tery,
The new wands are more round and seem smaller and easier to handle. The floor tool for the present Guardian does NOT fit the new machine.
It does have a very powerful air-flow and suction with the new motor.

new Electrolux

Mike,
Check the front of this thread as it gives the price and other specs. I was told about $1600.00. It still has a quality look and feel compared to many other machines on today's market. Good design is good design. I will bet we will see this style Lux around long after the plastic bagless machines have gone to the dumsters.
We collectors are hard to please. We gripe if they do away with an old design and we gripe when they don't makes changes. I think they have tried to make a very sturdy machine a little better by keeping the Electroux features of easy bag change, automatic shut-off,full size tools and easy to use power nozzle and done away with some trouble prome features such as the adjustable shut-off,3 speed motor and hose handle off/on controls.

new Electrolux

I just looked at this new machine and was very disappointed. It is lightweight but the plastic seems really cheap with the "silvertone" areas looking like spray paint.
It's also LOUD . . . louder than the previous models that are still available. I asked the salesman about this (as he turned them both on) and he said "Yes, it is obviously louder. . . I'm not sure the company is aware of this!" I was quoted $1300.

Loud New Lux...!

I am not surprised if they are cost cutting. I guess they took out some of the insulation that kept the noise down.

Ironically, when the 1205 came out they actually did this on purpose to increase the noise. Some research demonstrated that the Model G was too quiet!!! Go figure. Apparently folks did not feel like they were cleaning or working hard enough with such a quiet vacuum. So the 1205 removed all the padding that had been designed into the G for noise reduction.

I was selling for Electrolux at the time, and I cannot tell you how bemused we all were when this was explained at a morning sales meeting!

So here we go again. Oh well....

Bruce

the average man in the street thinks the louder the motor the more powerful it is. educated and informed people know this is not true. just another marketing thing. joe

Well, if you got the money & want new I guess go for it but
I like the older stuff & can;t afford the new.

I just sold my lux 2100 with PN. They got a great buy on that vac as I got it when it was only 3 years old & I hardly used it in 16 years. The powernozzle was like new & I'm sure a 1990 lux 2100 is every bit as good and better than a new lux though it needed a new hose as the old cloth hose was leaking as is natural. So with a new hose it would be ready yo go for another 20 years.

BTW Love the G as its got a metal lined bag compartment compared to the plastic of the later model metal tanks.

My grandmother bought a new 1205 from lux. Only luxes we ever had were old ones but heck they last forever.
