The "incinerary" vacuum-Its ALUMINUM motor windings are famous for catching on fire!

HAH!

That is so awesome! Maybe I can get one just for the purpose of WATCHING IT BURN!!! Yes I am a pyromaniac. But, BOY! A vacuum with fire??? That is great! And, yes, I did watch those kids blowing up vacuums as well as lighting them on fire. Next time I want to see someone dropping them in a pool... :-)

MY grandma has one...

I think she got it in 1999 because her Kenmore twin fan shattered one of its fans. So my Aunt got her this that Christmas. I think when my uncle put it together he thought the fan was broken on it because it is so loud. She still has it and I tell her NOT to use it if i am not around. Yesterday, we went to my dads uncle and aunt and they have it from 1982 to the current one I saw reviews for the FL and they gave it a half black dot for carpets and a solid black for hardfloor cleaning. they said they reccomended hearing protection and the tool suction was worthless. I think it was a 1999 issue?

I would like to see a DD Featherlite burn up as well-the vac shop here has run into some burnt ones-showed me the aftermath-just think if you want a vac to burn up-use the Feather lite and overload it by picking up a sock or something like that and watch it burn.I wonder if Royal DD has corrected the burning problems in later models-by putting a thermal OL switch in the motor or something. The burning out of these occurs in the "Direct air" models. It just takes something to get caught in the roller brush or fan.I have also read of these machines buring up spontaniously on users in "E-Pinions".The films of the kids burning and destroying that nice Hoover Constellation was disturbing-on another video the kid wore a mask-video was poorly lighted so you couldn't really see what was happening-or what model Hoover they were destroying.

why do you want to burn these vacuums? those are good vacuums.

Hello

Dirt Devil Featherlites are the first thing I think of when "cheap crappy plastic vacuum" comes to mind.
They have horrible motors. They are too noisy!
I want to see one burn as well!

funny stuff

How funny vacuumboy95 calling a dirt devil ANTHING good. I am laughing very hard. Your sense of humor is great! Not only is that the WORST brand in the world (known by anyone who knows anything about vacuums), but also their cheapest and most terrible model! If there is such a thing... they are all pretty horrendous. They deserve to burn... why else would they have "devil" as part of their name? Let them burn! :O)

On a more serious note...

No Dirt Devil machines have anything resembling quality in them; ALL of their models are cheap and not meant to last over 6 years. If they do in fact last 7+ years it's a damn miracle. Yes, Dirt Devils are the epitome of the throwaway Wal-Mart vacuum.

The early Dirt Devil "Upright" or "MVP" models (clean-air) were NOTORIOUS for having the flimsy bag cover crack in the center due to it flexing inward because of the suction. I've seen many like this. I also had a Broom Vac (not the broom, but the upright) where the rear bearing on the crappy GS Electric motor was all but gone, and I got so furious at it I ended up smashing it to pieces.

While I'm not positive, I'm willing to bet that all of the DD motors are made by GS Electric. Tom Gasko would definitely know, and would probably post what he thought of Dirt Devils in this thread as well had he not been UNFAIRLY banned from posting on here for no reason whatsoever...don't EVEN get me started on that!!! What a joke.

DD does have its place in the industry. While I do not like them for the reasons already stated, some folks on a limited budget do buy them. There is a need for them. I bet there are some homes where they do outlast the 5 year planned self destruction date. One lady had one in at my vac shop for a repair. I happened to be there when she picked it up. It needed a belt but was otherwise in good condition. So no, I would not buy one, but someone else may choose to do so and that is ok. As for the motors, are there not different grades of motors made by GS? Maybe DD just uses a low, cheap grade of motor? There are experts out there on this new stuff...any ideas?

Our Dirt Devil hand vac still works well (far as i know) and its getting on a bit.

Then again it is the one with the circular rubber belt cover and with the royal logo on the bag/rating plate..so that might have someting to do with it ;)

the little red DD handvacs were great-the best of the DD machines.I have seen those last for many years. The other DD products could be termed "dumpster vacuums"in that the average life of most of them is less than two years-you then throw out the old one and buy another-then repeat the cycle.I do have a few red DD hand vacs in my collection-got from yard sales-that work great-I used to have a red DD "broom vac"and that little thing worked quite well-would be betteran the Featherlite-the Broom vac motors didn't burn up so easily-at least they had nice copper windings!I left the DD Broom vac with a house I sold-forgot it was there-it was a nice little machine.Had it for several years and not a lick of trouble with it.Hope the new homeowner got some use out of it!

Tom Gasko

Does anyone know what really happened to him? Has anyone spoke to him? I'm sorry he has been banned from this site. He contributed some valuable information.

Re : Tom Gasko

I'm not really sure what happened to him to get banned, but I also miss having him here, as do other people I have talked to.
