Hey guys.... I don't usually post in the vintage section, but I'm pretty sure my Celebrity was made before 80. After fixing the power nozzle, I changed the bag and found that the motor filter had become brittle. It fell apart when I touched it. I tired to order one on Ebay, but the seller who had it requested to cancel the transaction because he didn't have it in stock anymore. Are these filters hard to find? Are they really necessary if I change the bag properly (on time)? If so, could I buy some supplies and fashion one myself? Also, whenever I run it, there is a brittle foam coming out of the air vents on the bottom of the base of the machine. Is that sound insulation? (I wonder considering the roar the machine makes)

Here's my Celebrity... I have the matching bare floor tool and crevice tool... but the dusting brush and upholstery tool are an ugly brown color, never found matching ones.

Thanks

Oh yeah... Kenny... I'll try to send you my old PN early next week. Work has been crazy and I'm dating a new guy who has been consuming much of my free time so I haven't had a chance to even pack it up yet, let alone get it to the post office!

From what I understand, the wrap-around style filters that those higher end celebrities use is a bit hard to find or NLA. I've heard of people using the foam shop-vac filter with good results, although I'm sure you could use several other items to do the same thing. (Inverted TriStar bag comes to my feeble mind on this one...). My Celebrity has the top mounted "disc" style filter, but it was missing when I got the machine and I've never replaced it. I'd assume that as long as you kept the bag changed (which you should anyway) and the housing clean, you should be fine.

If you're seeing pieces of foam coming out the bottom, it could be either the motor filter itself or it could be some of the sound insulation. When I had my Bicentennial Celebrity apart, the sound insulation was completely rotten and just fell apart when I touched it! I just pulled it out and the machine isn't really any louder than when it was installed.

Just some thoughts.....hope that helps.

I say the same

Id make it out of a shop vac filter, and for the black stuff Tristar is right its the soud insulation/filter mine did the same its a round foam rubber disk with a hole in the middle and it deteriorates over time, especialy in humid climate. For that I used a foam air conditioner filter for a window unit and cut a hole in the middle and trimmed the corners. You should be able to get that at a hardware store, mabe even the depot.

Don't worry about the PN im not in a hurry, I have been working round the clock to,tonight is night 4 of 8 and its a 12hr night. Good Luck with your new BF.
Kenny

Yay!

I'm glad to see it up and running!

Beautiful machine. I think that model of Celebrity was 82-84-ish.
