I got my Hoover 28 for free a few years ago, but it is in terrible shape. I was wondering if it would be worth it to try to restore... or if they aren't too rare/expensive can I find another? The motor, brushroll, bottom plate and cord are fine. The motor hood is scratched all up, and the threads are stripped so it isn't secured to the machiine... just sits on top. The bag looks like swiss cheese. The handle waggles from side to side, and now the bakelite (?... not sure whats it's made out of) hand grip has a crack going all the way up the back... Is there any hope? Thanks.

You can probably find a nicer one. These were very popular machines right after WWII. (Everybody bought a Model 28 Hoover, a Model XXX Electrolux, or a Model B Rexair in the immediate postwar period, hence the abundance of these models so many years later.) The Model 28 was the lower priced companion to the more deluxe Model 61 Hoover. Keep your present machine as a source of parts.

The model 28 is a classic. I say keep it. They are not that difficult to restore. I have quite a few parts for them. If you want email me and tell me what you want. You are welcome to the 28 parts for the cost of shipping. These machines look great when they are switched on with the bag inflated. It is definitely a classic Hoover!
