Ah, Jack, more of those very-easy-on-the-eye pictures, and a great vacuum too. Very nice two-tone blue. Love the first low profile picture; looks like its ready to take on all the dirt in the house.

Great Find, Jack!!

What a beautiful machine, and apparently it's the UK version of the model 63 in the US. Both great vacuums that do a wonderful job on the carpets. Congrats,
Jeff

And another, nice one Jack, looks in fine shape, just watch those bags, those sateen ones like the 1334 fray as much as you look at them, one snag and youre running for your darning kit!!!

Terry, yes I know, just too much happening to make it this year, first year missed for a long while!!!

I know it is the first one you have missed in a while Mike, so why not change your mind and join us!!! I know that sometimes things come up but just know how much both you and Jack will be missed. Hugs!! Terry

The thanks for this machine - or at least, for 50% of it - go to my friend Al. He found the 638, with it's original bag and cord, in an old-style vac-shop near where he works. I'd totally forgotten all about it until he turned up on my doorstep one evening last week, and presented it to me!

This is what it looked like when it arrived:

I already had this 638, which had just been sitting in the attic for a few years. Pattern bag, cord, no handgrip, bad motor bearings...

Post# 69451 , Reply# 19   5/16/2009 at 05:08 (5,457 days old) by vintagehoover ()

So I combined the two: the chassis, hood and handle of the old one with the bag, cord and motor of the new one!

A reference-photo of the wiring while I was disconnecting the footswitch...

This was the part I was most concerned about: the original bag needed a wash, but naturally, I was afraid of damaging it.

To show you why, look at how thin the material is! It's thinner even than a US Lark bag - it's like a filmy, silky kind of material. They fall to pieces if you even dare to look at them!

Post# 69453 , Reply# 21   5/16/2009 at 05:20 (5,457 days old) by vintagehoover ()

But...I went ahead and very cautiously washed it in cool water...

Post# 69454 , Reply# 22   5/16/2009 at 05:24 (5,457 days old) by vintagehoover ()

...then left it to air-dry in the sun...

Post# 69455 , Reply# 23   5/16/2009 at 05:25 (5,457 days old) by vintagehoover ()

...and it turned out quite well!

Very nice!

And the first Hoover 'Senior' to feature the 'disposall' dustbag.
