Hi, I am trying to figure out how to fix a Kenmore Progressive power nozzle hose. I recently bought a Kenmore Progressive at a thrift store but didn't try it out before I did. I get it home and the power nozzle worked but the vacuum motor was shot. I then found another similar vac in the trash with a good motor and transplanted it. Now the vacuum motor works but the power nozzle won't come on. I also found a few other hoses that fit this machine and I found one that will work but it doesn't really match the colors of the machine I'm trying to get working. Is there any way to fix the hose so it will turn on the power nozzle? It seems odd that I have about 3 hoses that turn on the vacuum but not the power nozzle. I have never had a hose like this apart before so I don't know what I'm getting into. Thanks.

Are the hoses missing any prongs? Any 3 prong Kenmore hose with the 3-way switch shoud work.I have a wispertone hose if you need it,Not in great shape but it works and has no tears. Also did you check the connections inside when you replaced the motor,Ive done that before.I drove myself crazy trying to find out why my PN wasnt working,Went back to the motor to find the HOT wire wasnt twisted well enough when I moved the motoe to seat it came off. Thats a last resort seeing its such a paint to take them apart somtimes.

The hoses are not missing any prongs. I did get one hose to turn the powner nozzle on so that tells me that the wiring around the motor is fine. It has to be something wrong with the hose. Could the switch just be partly bad to where it will turn on the motor but not the power nozzle?

Opposite Problem

I have a Kenmore Progressive in Garnet Red 27914 and the power nozzle runs when the machine in turned off. You have to unplug the machine from the wall to turn off the power nozzle. If the plug is in the wall the power nozzle is on with the machine on and off.

I fixed it!

I did a search on the web and found out why these Kenmore Power Nozzle Hoses quit working. Its the receptacle on the hose. If the receptacle isn't flush with the housing around it, its too far back to make good contact with the prongs in the wand. I took mine apart and sure enough there are some plastic tabs to hold it flush that break. So to fix it I just took some fishing string and tied it around the receptable to hold it out more so it makes contact with the prongs in the wand. Check out the link below for a better description.
