I was in Newmarket and stopped in at Value Village. I have stopped going there because they have become so over priced.
Something did catch my eye and at $5.99, it was too good of a deal to pass up.

When I first plugged it in, it was really noisey, grindy and made a banging sound. There was a cracked, very stretched out belt and a paperclip twisted around the post.
Lots of really fine hair that took half an hour and a steak knife to get out.

Is this the way the bag should look? Does it look like it has been mended or melted?

Yes, it came with a bag of dirt, not filled to the brim, dosen't really smell either. Can the outer bag be washed?

The brushroll looks pretty new.One problem, the height adjuster dosen't work. You have to grab the back wheels and pull down, then move the leaver.Works fine going back. How hard is that to fix?
Will a shot of WD40 work?

All cleaned up.Mr Clean erasers are amazing at removing old scuffs and paint. The belt fits, brushroll turns, smells better and is still REALLY noisey.
Do I need to oil something somewhere? Picks up dirt, just might be deaf when your done.
Too bad the scratches are so deep. No cracks though.
Well at least it can keep the other Hoover company. I did notice there is quite a difference in weight. The brown Hoover, dose it have a bigger motor?

Loud convertible

did U check the fan & see if its cracked? Those are nice convertibles; I have one like the one on left (except hood on mine is green) & a lavender one. They'll outclean any Hoover made today (Windtunnel, Elite Rewind, Mach Series)

Brian, you might try wet sanding out some of those deeper scratches.

"Is this the way the bag should look?" I have the identical poppy-red convertible and the answer is "yes." I think by this point Hoover realized it was a weak spot on these bags, and thus, used more heavy-duty welds. I always liked the perforated vinyl bags better. To me, the last production run of the convertibles lost something when they went to fabric.

Thats one hell of a dirtbag!

lol

The *bag* not the vacuum!

Nice find! I never knew a bag could get that full in a Convertible without all falling into the fill tube!

I never knew the fill tube on a Hoover was so big. It looks like a piece of pvc pipe for a drain or a swimming pool.It is almost the size of a Kirby fill tube.
I think I will take it to the vacuum shop. It is just way too noisy to use. The fan looks ok, no chunks or cracks in it. Is there bushings that can go?
I had a Dirt Devil steam vac that went the same way. It still worked, but you would have to wear ear plugs.
