I placed a wanted ad on our local Freecycle website asking for any old vacs and got a response within a day or two. Was told they had 3 old vacs in their garage so off I went and got an old FQ in bad shape, an Eatons (Eureka princess) in absolutely unsalvagable condition, and this lovely Eatonia )Eatons Dept store brand) made in Canada in the 50's or very early 60's. Doug has a similar one on his website. Only came with a ratty hose no attachments but it's not in bad shape, the chrome ends need a little fixing. I haven't even plugged it in to see if it works

mm, a diamond in the rough. How ratty is that hose? if it's just at the ends we can shorten it a bit and latex it tight as new!

Wow Pete, you are going to be busy!! I just wonder what the attachments would have looked like for that machine?

Was It Built By Royal?

It sure looks similar to some of the Royal or Electro-Hygiene tanks of the same vintage, such as the 186 Royalaire that I got recently or a 701 Royal or Electro-Hygiene tank, except that they are a different color and have runners instead of wheels. Here's the ebay photo of my 186 Royalaire for comparison. I'm thinking the attachments would be similar.

does look the same

You know it doesn't say on Doug's site. Mine just says "made in Canada" It seems that most made in Canada vacuums, like FQ, Eurekas etc were built by a couple of companies..Switson Industries and I've forgotten the other name, made under license for the US manufacturer so it's quite possible that they made Royals as well for sale in Canada and rebades of them as well for dept stores.

Hey Pete:

Yes - they were a rebadged Royal and Jeff's right - that is what the parts should look like for it. I still havnt found the right ones for mine (All it came with was the rug nozzle which is a plastic version of the metal one Jeff shows)
