Hi, Just how long ago was it when such manufacturers, for the very first time, threw in the promotion of giving you a free second vac, be it a portable canister or hand vacuum? For one, I know Royal (pre-TTI) had given its buyers in 1995 a free Dirt Devil Hand Vacuum with the purchase of a Classic Model 3000 upright. Kirby, as another example, gave some of its buyers a free Split Second cordless rechargeable hand vac with the purchase of the Heritage II system. In promotional literature for the HII, the Split Second is seen on a cradle mounted on the long handle of the HII. I do have to mention the one Hoover upright with an on-board hand vac: the Concept II, which included a free Help-Mate hand vac, stored onboard. This Dustbuster-inspired vac used the same power cord as the Concept II. The Help-Mate was later sold separately, and Montgomery Ward had briefly sold a version of it under its own name. But, I've one thought to add here ... did Hoover ever give away any free portable canister vacs (cf. Swingette, Portapower, and Sprint/Tempo) towards the purchase of any of their uprights? Regards, Ben Edge |
