I am trying to sell Miele vacs and I think they are great but the company is a pain. I have a customer that the other local store has completely upset and I am having the hardest time helping him. I am only allowed to sell certain vacs within model lines. And it seems that the only person that knows what I am allowed to order is my sales rep. He won't return my calls. THE COMPANY DOESN'T KNOW WHAT I CAN ORDER. This kind of attitude can kill a company no matter how good the product is. BTW Did anyone else know that some products are assembled in China. Dealer services said they didn't know that either. Sorry had to vent.

So much for that German quality huh? I haven't been big on Miele since I first heard about them. I just prefer something less expensive that does the same job, or better! (a used TriStar/Compact comes to mind...)

That's terrible though that the company has the "left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing" attitude. You'd think they'd have a little better control on that sort of thing. The whole "Turf War" thing will kill them quick too.......that's the #1 reason distributorships go out of business.

It's not because the customer won't buy the product......it's because the merchant gets fed up dealing with the company and their bureaucracy. It's really a shame to hear stories like this.

hey Scott, I've heard about this behavior repeatedly, but only from US Miele representatives. A shame, if you ask me. Over here there is no trouble with Miele but this may have to do with sales shops just hushing it up, I have no clue.

Personally, I never liked Miele so much, the machines look so "0815" to me (a German expression for "so-so/average/nothing special", maybe this was some movie reference, no clue).

I feel sorry for what happened, you better stick to any other good vacuum company, do not get pressurized please! Step out of the contract if you can.
I feel sorry for living in Miele country :-/

(I buy Kirby, Hoover, Bosch, Royal and Hotpoint anyhow, *hrrhrr*)

Sorry to hear about your experience Scott. A rep can make or break the success of a line in whatever area they represent. I had a wonderful rep when I had my store, but I have heard horror stories. There are lots of people who get the job and simply see it as a way to earn a living. They don't give a damn about the vacuums or the business at all. It's just the numbers to them.

I'm really surprised that dealer services did not know that some machines are assembled in China. That was never a huge secret in any of my dealings with the company. In fact, every machine that is assembled in China says so right on the spec plate. I believe currently that consists of the Naturell, the Plus, the 514, and the two Universal uprights. The S4, S5 and S7 lines are all 100% German made. What most people don't know is that Miele needs to do this with their older machines in order to make room at the plant for the current line-up. Space is at a premium in Germany, due to the relatively small size of the country, so it's difficult to expand the plant to accomodate new product. So for the older models, they ship the German made parts to the plant in China (there are also other plants in the Czech Republic and Austria). The sticker does indicate that parts come from both Germany and China. I can't remember now what part is made in China, but it's some small electrical component.

What is the name of your vacuum store? I looked on the dealer locater for Allen, TX, but it only lists one dealer there. If you are not on the locater, try to get Miele to get you on there. It does help bring in business.

I do hope that things get better for you. Miele truly does make the best (I didn't say perfect) canister on the market now, and customers just LOVE them.

I emailed Miele directly the other day and asked about their machines being made in China (mainly asked about the S7 and S4). Their response was "All Miele appliances are 100% manufactured in Germany". I don't care for the Naturell, the Plus, the 514, or the Universal uprights anyway, and especially now since they're not even German! Well, I knew the Universals weren't a true Miele product...

I still like Miele though, and nobody will change that. They're well built, filter great, clean great, and easy to use. The price is the "not so bright side", but what do you expect from an import? It's just like buying an Audi, Mercedes, or a Bimmer.

Yes. I have experienced the SAME ass backwards garbage treatmant from the Miele company over a year ago while I worked in a vac shop. Hmmmm. If the meile company continues to behave with this, they will continue to loose massive sales. They don't GET that vac shop owners are one of thier most valuable customers.I hope they change ... for the better.

Back in the mid-80s, when Miele was new to San Francisco, I bought one from a nice guy who had a shop in the Western Addition neighborhood. He was the first Miele dealer. Soon there were others. BUT...he told me horror stories about the inconsistencies of answers he got from the company rep and the ATTITUDE he was subjected to. He dropped out of the Miele business about 3 years later. He just couldn't take them anymore. Hmmmmmm
