Hello all, remember a few weeks ago I had a lady tell me that she found a vacuum in the trunk called a Standard and might be interested in selling it? Well don't get to excited, she called me back and brought it for me to see. It was a off white or maybe grey Compact with the red leather trunk. This thing was awesome but was a little rough. It had all of it's attachments plus Hoover and GE attachments as well. She had ALL of the original paper work including all of the money orders they used to make their 14.00 a month payments. The sales ticket was from 1953 but the copy write on the booklet was 1949. I didn't get to look at the model number because she acted like she didn't really want me touching it to much, ( even though she brought it to me to tell her what it was worth). The hose was taped in one place and the cord was in bad shape however she told me that the machine was next to new!! Well for it's age it was nice but I have seen nicer. So I asked her what she wanted me to do with it? She asked me what could I sell it on Ebay for. Well I don't know but I said with everything that's with it ( even a copy of a 4 page letter to Compact from the customers and a response letter also from 1954 and a ticket for a replacment motor in 1957) she might get $75 and up?? MIGHT that is. Well for that low price I will just keep it. This lady is wanting to get like $300 - $500.00 for it and she keeps it in the back of her uncovored truck in a black trash bag. Boy it really means something to her. today when she brought it to me it was raining and the trash bag leaked so the poor thing was soaked.
UGGG stupid ass people like this really make me mad. If she thinks it's worth so much then she need to put it under glass for display not keep it in the rain. I felt really stupid trying to tell her anything about it without even getting to touch it. The same woman at one time wanted to know if I had a rainbow SE for sale all rebuilt and she was willing to spend up to a whopping $50.00 for it. That just chappes my you know what that she won't spend a dime on a vacuum but want to sell a vacuum for a mint.

I would have taken a pic but though that might not go over well with her.

Ok, now that I read the post. All I saw as Compact with trunk and I saw the word "selling" and my eyes lit up! I get really excited about Compacts, especially when they're complete and have their hassocks. Lol...

Sorry to hear what happened to it though. :(
