Try saying that 5 times...I practiced all the way home. Wrote a song about it. The Twingle Jingle. Wanna hear it? Fire Gods angry! We must leave Island! But first...I dance for you! Oh, never mind...

Wow!!! Just catching up. What an exciting busy spectacular vacuum finding weekend its been for everyone here on the threads - The Twingle was in the air...

I dashed down to the Toledo area to personally pick up a really nice Hoover something and paid a late afternoon visit to Chad's Ann Arbor Vacuum Shop on the way back. Vacuums just kept jumping in the car when I left the doors open. I swear, I'd stop at a light or a thrift shop parking lot, the doors would be mysteriously opened by a phantom hand and the darn things just hopped in & made themselves at home. Got home too late to do the garage door glamor group shot so here's a teasing preview...details tomorrow.

Where James Dyson really got his design inspiration...

aeoliandave's profile picture
Diet Smith's Space Coupe he built to return, nay shuttle Moon Maid back and forth so Dick Tracy could admire her one piece Moon Suit. The Space Coupe used Magnetism for propulsion and maneuvering. Diet Smith, the famed Industrialist also invented Dick Tracy's Wrist TV Radio. :-)

Anyway, I had this 'school bus yellow' model kit featured in the Saturday Comics Dick Tracy pages as a wee tot and would make 'magnetic' theremin sound effects as I landed it on fantasy buildings made from my Girder & Panel set. Oh memories...

First time I saw a yellow Dyson it was the Space Coupe I thought of...and still do. See what I mean? Justification enough for bringing home this free one gifted to, rather thrust eagerly into my hands, from Chad. It was a trade-in. Hope you sold him a Miele, Chad. :-)

Well, I always said the only Dyson I would buy would be a free one. I love it and look forward to restoring it to sucking condition - it will form a fine contrast to the Fantoms in the small corner reserved for Bagless Cyclones.

Dave

speaking of Dyson I really want one but I am a little confused on which model to get.

I dont want problems with the clutch so that narrows it down to a clutchless model. I do want an upright but I also love the power and design of the Canister. maybe a little advise would be great.

thanks

Count on Hoover to come out with the first electric mop that sucks up it's own scrub water and drys the floor with warm motor exhaust. It went on sale to the public August 19 1959 in blue & white. In 1960 the color was changed to a soft banana yellow.

Wow Brian, it is in super condition. All it needs the the overall Spa Treatment - brush head de-fluffed and soaking in dishwashing water as I post...gaskets will be renewed as needed and then, the Demo! Wheeeeeeeeeee

Old Davy very happy.

This Royal cylinder is a revalation to me.

aeoliandave's profile picture
I'd only seen pictures of these, in yellow, blue and deep red. I had no idea how small - 20" end to end - and light it is and easy to pull around on 4 wheels. The on-board tools saddle caddy makes it cute as a button and they don't/won't fall off.

Wow, variable speed switch makes it pull from 75" to over 110". The longest hose ever...11 feet from can to hose handle. Handle switch turns on PN headlight and brushroll motor.

With all these features and the lovely rich red colour what it really should have is an Electrolux style cordwinder. Maybe I jazz it up with one. :-)

Being a Royal Dealer, Chad had the hepa filter bags for it for me.

My Little Shop of Floor'ers....LMAO

Dave,

Was so good to see you, and even better that we can do it this weekend again we we come up to Sarina. I usually am quite willing out help out others if I can. And if you need the help again for the shipping, just holler my way.

I remember you saying that you got a few shots of this "Roswell like" secret warehouse that had all the vacs in Ohio. Looking over the within, I can definitely see a treasure or two for meself. I'm sure others here are drooling also. At my old job up in Lansing we had a whole third floor of the old factory building the owner had bought for a song a few years beforehand; about the width and length of this pole barn, filled with vacuum cleaners of all kins and sorts, all rowed out and sorted like that. That took me three days solid to do when i started. By he time I left three years later, I could recant by number and row, where a machine was. this helped out my helper who usually was the gopher when I needed stuff at the main store. I guarantee that's not he way it is today. They're dumb As#$%les, and wouldn't know a system if it bit them in the privates..

My Store.... GOOD god , when you see it in person it doesn't look that sardine packed in here, but by the look of your pictures, I gotta lotta stuff here in my shoebox. We as i explained used to have that whole next section, but when the hair salon moved, and the Sewing Machine Store next door sold us of, we became our own little thing...next to where we used to be.

I'm so glad that your FloorWasher made it in one piece, and it's wonderful to see that you have two now. Completing the set. As we saw with the canister when we were still visiting, most people who know, know how to ship an item correctly AND safely. It's these idiot yahoo's that grabbed granny's vac while she was asleep on the lanai and tossed it in whatever box they could find, with minimal wrapping needs to make a quick buck that usually cause the damages, and loss.

Pete- I'll answer..three. And as cold as it was that afternoon, was a good thought. I wish I had a brain to think out things like that sometimes.

Ah the Royal Pony.... Truly the last decently made, all metal, well represented vac that was available from America Inc. Dave I forgot to add, as It snapped into my mind about the time you hit the ferry, and I was about to be In Lansing that that was our VERY last Royal Pony model that we sold before they were discontinued. I know this because they moved the motor speed control back from the hand grip to in front of the metal push switch on the back.

Sam, If you ever have owned a Kenmore, with the double-brush, double beater-bar agitator, you then already know how it cleans...VERY VERY well. This was the same unit that was used on Panasonic, Hayden, Royal, Air-Way and Sears Kenmore amongst others, including some central vacs as well; that I've simply forgotten to mention.

NICE thread...

Chad

Saddle Bags

Can the saddle bag attachment carrier be taken off the Royal canister? It looks like it's riveted or screwed on. I kind of think the vacuum would look nicer without it.

Post# 64415 , Reply# 39   3/30/2009 at 19:58 (5,504 days old) by aeoliandave (Stratford Ontario Canada)
I see it this way, Bill.

aeoliandave's profile picture
The saddle is definitely secured in place at the sides, with the handle riveted to the body over it. Would be a real pain to remove and why bother?

I have plenty of stylish vintage cylinders that need no embellishment of saddlebags to enhance their tubular beauty (with the exception of the well designed XXX & LX saddle plate caddies keeping the tools snugged tight to the body) ...but in the case of the Royal Pony, the substantial wheels and front ball casters protrude outside the vertical side plane of the short body and would make it look somewhat stumpy and ungainly. The saddle gives the whole some beefy heft without adding too much weight, serves as a wall bumper, imparts a certain masculine handsomeness to the package and also, of course, keeps the tools on board and readily at hand. And as for the long color matched hose - remember big things come in small packages. :-) A very impressive vacuum ensemble, this Royal.

Dave

Comments about the TriStar after Hepa Filters got me to thin

aeoliandave's profile picture
What's so special about them other than a nod toward sub micron type filtration of the after motor airstream back into the room. And why does the smaller Filter Fresh seem to impede suction while the Warthog is free flowing?

I know they both have foam and carbon impregnated filter pad inserts.

Post# 64417 , Reply# 41   3/30/2009 at 20:09 (5,504 days old) by methodistbill ()

Post# 64420 , Reply# 42   3/30/2009 at 20:20 (5,504 days old) by aeoliandave (Stratford Ontario Canada)
Here's the answer.

aeoliandave's profile picture
The Warthog has an open large cell foam pad, then 3 carbon fibre pads and finally a circular pleated paper filter ring.

I can't be sure something might be missing but the Filter Fresh has one carbon pad and one foam pad. The foam is extremely small cell and even after washed and furnace register dried is definitely harder to blow through. I believe this foam pad restricts the airflow like a car muffler and hampers the efficiency built into every Compact/Tristar. I get a 91" reading from the Tristar which drops about 1/2" with the Filter Fresh in place. No drop with the Warthog.

There is room in the Filter Fresh for 2 or 3 more carbon pad pucks (smaller in diameter than the Warthog pucks) but I think the small cell foam is a big design flaw.

The pleated paper ring is so basic I'm sure a replacement can be found at the NAPA car parts store. But this one is virtually clean, as one would expect in any Compact with it's already superior multi filter protections.

The Filter-Fresh also has a pleated filter.

Obviously, it's much smaller. Everything I ever heard from others indicated that it restricted the airflow way too much. A few years ago, I found an aftermarket pleated filter on eBay that fits on the motor intake. The air restriction is much less.

Yup, it's my long looked for 1951 Hoover Aerodyne Model 51. Paid a few pennies more than usual but not as high as my top bid.

But just look at the condition!!! How could I go wrong?

No cracks in the bakelite, no scratches, perfect paint, no rust, perfect tight Variflex hose and wands and the all important floor nozzle. Hard to believe this vacuum cleaner is 2 years older than I am...

What's missing is the included tool caddy and the tools. But I have the Part Book and know what to look for. The hunt begins...

Serial No. 6,321,374 w Variflex hose.

Note at bottom of Tools Page reads "Cleaners prior to Serial No. 6,175,013 equipped with braided hose" like the one that came with the 26 upright. But the 26 tools do not fit, they were resized to fit the 51's standard size wands. Then along came the Constellation in 1954 with it's tools in color. I suppose dark brown Connie tools will do if they exist, but I don't have any, yet.

Gingham Boxer shorts - it's a blue collar working class neighborhood. Mustn't draw too much attention. Tan workbooks are the high style on this side of the tracks. Stepford Style Perfection lives across the river on the hill or out in the New Development in the mortgaged Monster Homes with the leased BMWs, Audis, Volvos and Cadillacs in the driveway because the two car garage is stuffed with all that other junk bought on credit like the treadmill and the fancy riding lawn tractor for the 1/4 acre of perfect lawn.

Down here by the railroad tracks - literally one block away - ya wanna have a pickup truck preferably lurched diagonally across the patch of rutted muddy grass in front of the rotting porch with the Sally Ann stuffed furniture. Ok, so that's how my neighbors, The Boneheads, keep up with the Jones's. On the other side of my corner, The Rednecks keep two beater pickups and a rusted out Chevette lined up in the driveway.

I just try to fit in as seen by the condition of my about to fall down Garage Door due to be replaced any weekend now that Spring is Sproinging.

Shirts? I don't like undershirts or Ts and I do like pockets for all those notes and paperclips and elastic bands and screws and stuff, so I maintain the pretty by habitually wearing two contrasting double pocket cotton shirts every day, ironed to crisp perfection each morning. :-) In Summer it's two short sleeve double pocket shirts...until I'm out on the boat and the shirts come off. LOL

You guys are so funny! I often thought of doing a racy stand-up routine using vac terminology in all sorts of funny ways. Though the real world hears "bags and belts" and thinks "fashion accessories," I think of vacuum cleaners. And don't get me started about crevice tools....

This mini-meet is sure to be fun, even before you guys starting popping open the beer cans.....

Would love to come and introduce myself in person but alas, on Sunday I have a date with my stainless steel Connie - we are going to clean my over-priced "shoebox in the sky" apartment and get it ready for the upcoming Passover holiday.

Hopefully another time soon, Pete and Dave!

Brian

The Mayers De Luxe Model T-12

In better shape than I thought from the ebay pictures. paint speckled with minor rust pimples that can be touched up with nail polish or auto touchup dropper.

Solid cast aluminum dust bag cap and handle painted battleship gray. metal body. Heavy and motor runs up & down fine but the fan vanes must be blocked as it only pulls 15".

Outfitted with a temporary hose.

A blue Torpedo

Exhaust.

I would only totally repaint this if I had some Hammertone blue. :-( So touchup dauber it is...while I look for a nice bluish cloth weave hose. Well, maybe a blue Kirby Tradition hose - its the right diameter for the coupler.

I am tempted to strip the battleship gray and polish out the handle and end cap. The side trim is also bolted on cast aluminum, not rubber as I expected...mmmmm
