Hi folks wanted to get some input on Kenmore Progressive Canister. I am thinking about getting one that is on Sale but I have read mixed reviews about the machine. Can anyone give me their input on these machine. I have a family member with one and I have used it and really like the machine.

THING SEARS PUTS DIFFERENT SIZE HOSES ON THERE MACHINES THE ONE I HAVE IS THE SHORT ONE AND I THINK IT'S A LITTLE TO SHORT
BUT I STILL LOVE THE MACHINE. YOU WON'T BE SORRY IF YOU BUY ONE.

Great Machine

I had one and gave it away to someone who really needed a vacuum. I had the red one too with the dirt sensor and the extra light in the wand. It is an excellent vacuum. The accessory door in the canister is a little flimsy but otherwise an excellent vacuum. Another great bonus feature is the powered hand attachment. I think they're made by Panasonic.

One Consideration:

I used to be a Kenmore buff; I've had several of their vacs and liked them very much. In the good old days, they were an excellent combination of price and value.

But I'm no longer buying Kenmore, and the reason is parts availability after the sale. I find Sears parts to be very expensive, and many things on a Kenmore canister are proprietary, not something you can find universal or aftermarket parts for. Sears is also highly prone to drop parts availability; I had to retire a ten-year-old Panasonic-made vac over the non-availability of a hose, and my Kenmore Power Spray steam cleaner needs parts that are also NLA. This situation was not formerly the case; Sears used to be great on parts. But no more.

As long as they work, Kenmores are as good as anything out there. But when they go bad, then you've gotta deal with Sears, and that can be problematic, in my experience. For the long haul, give me Lux or TriStar or another premium brand anyday.

Kenmore Progressive 27915

Sears has the Kenmore Progressive Red 27915 for $379.88 it has the 8ft hose and 28ft cord. The 27914 is the same price and has the 26ft cord. They have the dirt finder too. My wife's grandmother has the same model in Charcoal Gray that was a Christmas Present in 2005 that replaced her Turquoise Model G. By the time what happened to her hold vacuum came up she had gotten rid of everything but the machine and powernozzle wand. It has two broken wheels which after looking long and hard I have found one wheel is brown but it works.

This weekend we rearranged her living room and before I knew it had vacuumed her entire house with that Kenmore. Thanks for your input I think I will love using it as one of my daily drivers. I really love that 8ft hose too makes moving around so much easier.

She said after 40 years her old Electrolux didn't owe her any service because it has been a good machine but I am not going to let it die just yet.

Ebay

I've seen those on Ebay and advertised as "new." I wonder why they end on there.

Well, I don't think it's the best canister in the world (I would give Miele that title).... but it has a lot of great features such as quick release wand and switch in the and grip, power mate junior, integrated wand/hose wire, retractable cord, 360 degree swivel hose, nice stiff bristles, and decent attachments. When I worked at Sears several years ago, I remember a good number of them had problems with them not turning on, something in the hose would short out or something. They are powerful, and relatively quiet though... I'd say to go for it without hesitation.

Red Kenmore Cannister

I have one in my basement that a friend gave to me. He was a forever Sears customer like his parents. Well I had hose problems connecting into the wand. So the power nozzle turned on and then off. With the forward and back strokes.
He had major part problems with his stove, his dryer, the
vacuum and something else, all from Sears and costing major
bucks!! So when the vacuum went, he said no more sears. So
he phoned me and asked what other caster can I get ? If
he would have consider use/rebuilt I would have said Lux.
He has to buy new, so I sent him to the vac shop downtown
to buy a new Meieli. He loves it ! Got a turbo floor tool,
now wants to go back for the electric power nozzle.

What model number

Norm do you know the model number of the vacuum. Too bad about your friend my wife and I have a set of Kenmore washer/dryer just over two years old and no problems yet. What are you planning on doing with that red vac.

The YELLOW one!!

About a year ago, I bought the yellow Kenmore/Progressive canister team and love it. One of the best vacuums I have ever owned. Quiet, powerful, a great performer. But I have the same complaint as the earlier poster: the attachment compartment door is flimsy, as it was on my previous red Panasonic/Sears model. What's great about this one is the 360 degree swivel hose. That was a complaint about the old one - it only swiveled about 90 degrees each way. Love this vacuum. Some pics:
