One of the things that my daughter had on her Christmas list this past year was a new vacuum. My wife ran with the ball on that one and I wasn't involved. When my wife told me she had gotten one for $28, I held my breath.

The picture below shows what $28 will get you. This is the Bissell "Easy Vac" (Sleazy Vac), Lightweight (amen to that) Bagless (choked with cat hair the first time out) vacuum. Model number 3130-3-08254B.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry when I see something this pitiful and pitiable. It's bright colors might attract the attention of children, but can't make up for hopelessly cheap construction. This product is what drives me to find used, higher quality alternatives.

This item is going back to Wal-Mart for a refund. It's going to be their problem, not mine. Since the joyful gift-giving time, I went to the DI store and found a wonderful vintage Hoover Celebrity canister vac with floor attachment for $10 that works fine and looks good. Best of all, my daughter loves it, including the retro spaceship look.

My sister ( whom I think needs a catscan) bought a brand new Kirby Diamond Edition. She talked about it all the time and just loved it. Well one day she said, Phillip I am ready to sell my new Kirby, I am ripping up all the NEW carpet in the house and going with hard wood with big rugs and need something simple for the rugs and it has to be new. I told her that the Kirby would be okay for the rugs. She said no don't want it anymore and she put it in the paper and sold it for $600.00. Then we talk about her next vacuum. Everything I had was to expensive ( $100.00 Panasonic, $60.00 windtunnel ETC. She decited to go to Walmart and pick out something really cheap. She calls me up and said guess what, I bought a new vacuum today, it's a Bissell. (Like I'm going to get excited about that.) Well it was the same thing as pictured above. After I told her how stupid that was she then said well you didn't have what I really wanted and couldn't find it anyplace else. I asked her what she was really looking for and she said the Hoover upright that she started out with nearly 30 years ago. Well she meant a new Convertible. I jus laughed and said well I have used ones. Oh no it has to be new. I said enjoy your Bissell. lol

If you want a "NEW" Convertible do what I did buy a commerical model. I got a Hoover C1431 Upright from Houston Vacuum for $180.00 including shipping. This model has a 6.0amp motor and top fill "A" bags and cleans and sound just like an older Convertible. The Down side it is made in China.

I never even thought of that. THanks, maybe when she gets rid of the Bissell I will get one for her.

If I were going to write a dictionary and have an illustration and definition for "dumpster vacuum" this would be it.Its just that--the thing dies or clogs up and the user throws it in the trash-that cute vacuum gets crushed in the maw of a trash truck-then he buys another and so on.Looks like a toy vacuum you would give to a child.

Does anyone else wish you can still buy a brand new vacuum at the store for $28 ? Times have changed so much. The cheapest Dirt Devil upright even is $50+ now.

That's just the devaluation of the dollar. It buys less and less all the time. And if you're patient, the same money will buy you a really nice cleaner at a thrift shop that was made out of metal, right here in the good ol' US of A. One hundred percent chinesium and circuit board free.

Oh I know, I was just speaking about new vacs.

I got a Hoover Concept One for $8 at Goodwill back in winter. Heavy beast!

They are heavy, but parts are hard to find. Good luck

$39 and change, and I'm certain I've seen them for sale for even less. Not too terribly far off from $28, and it probably cleans better than the Easy Vac did.

I'm aware of that one, but the Bagged model of the Powerforce series is vastly better than the bagless. I just seen that one at Restore actually but they wanted $20 for it. So dumb. Just $14 more and I can buy it new and with a warranty.
